IJM, Europlus bag RM5.04b WCE highway project

12 DECEMBER 2014 @ 11:51 PM
http://www.nst.com.my/node/61976

KUALA LUMPUR: Kumpulan Europlus Bhd and IJM Corp Bhd have won a contract from West Coast Expressway Sdn Bhd (WCE) to undertake a RM5.04 billion construction work.

The companies have formed an unincorporated joint venture called IJMC-KEB for the job.

The joint venture accepted the letter of award from WCE for the project costing no more than RM5.04 billion, Europlus and IJM said in separate filings to Bursa Malaysia yesterday.

Europlus said the rationale of the 30:70 tie-up was for the purpose of “governing their relationship as joint venture partners to secure the award of the construction works from the WCE project as the turnkey/engineering, procurement and construction contractor (EPC contractor)”.

The project is from Banting in Selangor to Taiping in Perak, stretching over 233km of tolled highway. The construction period is five years.

Pursuant to the letter of agreement, the IJMC-KEB joint venture will award to IJM the construction works for Packages 3, 4, 5, 8 and 9 of the project for an amount not exceeding RM2.83 billion.

Meanwhile, the remaining works for Packages 1, 2, 6, 7, 10 and 11, will be awarded to sub-contractors with total contract sums not exceeding RM2.22 billion.

Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the LPT2 worth RM4.1 billion was a vital factor to attract more investors in many fields including the tourism industry to boost Terengganu’s economy .

Ahmad Razif said the expressway was equipped with 10 toll plazas, three rest areas and 98 bridges along its 184 kilometres stretch, and would be toll-free for the next six months.

He said the government was informed that LPT2's Certificate of Practical Ocupation (CPO) has been approved by the Transport Ministry.

Ahmad Razif said with the completion of the LPT2, the journey from Kuala Terengganu to Kuala Lumpur is shortened to four hours while from Gemuroh to Jabor would only take one hour and a half.

Pan Borneo Highway is a network of major trunk roads in the island of Borneo. It is also known as Jalan Lintas Kalimantan (Trans-Kalimantan Highway) in Indonesian Borneo. In Malaysian Borneo and Brunei, most of the sections are single-carriageways, with some sections are upgraded into divided highways (but still has partial access control). In Indonesian Borneo, however, there are even unpaved sections that may reach thousands of km.

According to the mapping sources on the internet (OSM, Google, etc) there's a ~400km (as the crow flies gap) between 2 and 3.30 on the clock.

And the roads leading up to the gap look rather minor (ie unpaved, poor alignment, etc). The section west of Palangkaraya is similar also.

That's correct. There's still no border crossing from Sabah (specifically Serudong) to Kalimantan, which is a very obvious missing link of the AH150.

World Economic Forum ranks Malaysia roads as being better than Sweden, Denmark and some other First-World/Developed countries.
