The local Gulf Spring Contracting has been awarded the AED 120 million ($32.6 million) main construction package on a residential project at Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO). The contract calls for the construction of an eight-storey residential complex spread across five plots. The local National Engineering Bureau (NEB) is the consultant. Local developer Gulf Investments is the client.

There is no eight-storey residential building or complex in DSO that we are aware of... this one has to be something new

Sorry........

I dont like the way Dubai is being carved up here...

Dubai City IS/HAS ALWAYS BEEN/ WILL CONTINUE TO BE the old CBD's of Deira and Bur Dubai.

Greater Dubai surrounds Dubai City and goes all the way till Umm Suqeim 3 or interchange 4/ MoE

New Dubai is everything after MoE, including Dubai Land and EVERYTHING along Emirates Road, uptil Jebel Ali.

Then we have Jebel Ali itelf, which WILL include JXB.

Finally we have Dubai Waterfront.

It's even simpler than that: If your hooker has to drive to get to you, your in New Dubai. If she has to walk, you're in Old Dubai.

Development is accelerating at Business Bay, where four new tower projects have been launched by international and local developers. The local Dubai Properties (DP) is the master developer on Business Bay, which is expected to contain up to 250 towers.

DP is planning to build an office tower complex known as the Hanging Gardens. The project is understood to involve the construction of 10 office towers. The UK’s Hopkins Architects is the consultant (MEED 3:3:06).

South Korean developer Bando Housing Corporation has received design proposals from four architects for a twin-tower, mixed-use development. Proposals have been submitted by RTKL of the US, Hong Kong’s Aedas and two South Korean firms, Heerim and Kunwon, for the project, which involves the construction of two 50-storey towers. Construction is expected to start in October.

Designs are also under way at KM Properties, a subsidiary of the local Al-Rostamani Enterprises, for a 32-storey mixed-use Park Lane tower project. Uruguay’s Carlos Ott is the architect. The project was originally planned as a 60-storey tower in the World Trade Centre area with direct access to the proposed Park Lane metro station (MEED 19:8:05).

They'd better not all look the same. The last thing business bay needs is more massed-produced JBR style stuff. The Executive towers are a lot better but that's enough methinks

Aldar's construction of Imperial College London Diabetes Centre completed ahead of schedule

ALDAR Properties PJSC announced today that construction of the city's specialist Diabetes Treatment & Research Centre has been completed ahead of schedule.

Imperial College London Diabetes Centre Building, Abu Dhabi.

The building has now been handed over for internal fitting out.

The building will be a specialised facility for diabetes treatment, care and research - an initiative resulting from the partnership between Imperial College London and Mubadala Development Company.

ALDAR Chairman Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh said: 'This is an important project for ALDAR - the centre is the first ALDAR construction project to be completed and it is also the first facility of its kind in the UAE.'

The centre will consist of a treatment unit for diabetes and its complications, as well as a research institute to look into the alarming diabetes rates prevailing in the UAE. The centre will also provide state-of-the-art medical facilities, specialist training and the latest technology for diabetic treatment.

Construction on a fast track programme began in July 2005 and work has continued around the clock to ensure that the centre was delivered on time.

'We were confident at meeting a tight construction deadline,' said Emad Muqattash, ALDAR's Projects Director. 'We are now pleased to confirm that the building has been handed over to the end user, Imperial College London.'

It is intended that the facility will be fully commissioned and operational by mid 2006. Upon completion, ALDAR will initiate its own dedicated property facilities management, to ensure that the building is maintained to the highest standards.

The Imperial College London Diabetes Centre is located beside the Zayed Military Hospital Building, on Mussaffah Road (at the intersection of 29th and 30th Streets) in Abu Dhabi.
