DUBAI: Burj Dubai (700m/850m) Part 25
General Information
Height: 700m to 850m (Official height held as a secret) Floors: 160 or more Start: March 2004 Finish: December 2008 Architect: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) Developer: EMAAR Properties "The World’s Tallest Building" going up in Dubai, EAU. The tower will be so tall the developers want to keep the tower's height a secret all the way to its official opening schedule in December 2008. The world famous architect firm SOM (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill) is behind the 465 000m² large office, residential, retail and hotel tower which is situated in the heart of Dubai, close to the exlusive Sheikh Zayed Road and close Business Bay. When completed, it will hold the record in all four categories as recognized by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (i.e., highest structure, roof, antenna and occupied floor) and have the highest publicly accessible observation deck. The tip of the spire can be seen by a person 95 km (60 miles) away. A person in the Observation Deck can see as far away as 80 km (50 miles), which is more than twice the distance from Dubai to Al Ain. The design of the Burj Dubai is derived from the geometries of the desert flower and the patterning systems embodied in Islamic architecture. It combines these historical and cultural influences with cutting-edge technology to achieve a high-performance building which will set the new standard for development in the Middle East and become the model for the future of the city of Dubai. as of 1/9/07 it has reached 370 meters. link to part 24 http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=423970 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() latest update ![]()

Mega Tower, your passion about this tower is respectable and its a good work that you put all information in there.
Next time let moderator do that at proper time. its like two parallel threads in progress at this moment.

Very nice introduction megatower.
![]() I couldn't help to notice that this whole area looks like one big mess. I can't wait to see what it's gonna look like when it's all finished and cleaned up. Someone in the earlier thread was asking about that waterway. What is it and where is all that water coming from? |

Good question. How are they going to get the water in the pool around Burj Dubai? Is someone just going to leave a water hose on for a couple of weeks or pour buckets of water till it seems just about full?

This is the extended canal of Business Bay, the water comes from the sea and is flowing through the natural and then extended creek. Business Bay will be extended in phase 3 to SZR, making Dubai an island technically. |

What is built in the large hole behind the Dusit Hotel ? Looks like a massive foundation, but the masterplan just shows two ca. 25 Floor buildings

For me The Index is OK, because it will add a good contrast to the thin towers of SZR.

DORMA in the Burj Dubai: major order jointly won with Hafele for the world's tallest building
DORMA, international supplier of products and systems circling the door, has together with its distributor Hafele received an order covering the supply of products for what is destined to be the world's tallest building, the Burj Dubai. ![]() Major order for DORMA for the world's tallest building - the Burj Dubai. The total contract value amounts to US$ 6.5 million. (approx. € 5 million) and the various sales agreements between DORMA and the client Emaar Properties PJSC, Dubai, provide for the supply of a range of items including door closers, panic exit devices and lever handles for the skyscraper now under construction. Also selected was a special bespoke door lever handle, to be supplied by DORMA subsidiary OGRO of Velbert/Germany, which was originally designed and applied for the local Armani Hotel. 'At over 700 meters, Burj Dubai will not only be the tallest building in the world but also one of the biggest projects in DORMA's history,' commented a delighted DORMA CEO, Dr. Michael Schadlich. So far the building has reached 'a mere' 330 meters, corresponding to its 95th floor. 'As negotiations are ongoing with respect to other areas of the building, we hope that DORMA will be able to win a number of further contracts,' said an optimistic Dr. Schadlich. DORMA was able to beat off some very strong competition to obtain this first batch of orders for the prestigious project, an achievement that further underlines its credentials as a single-source supplier of products, systems and services. DORMA also offers the significant benefits of an international network of subsidiaries offering essential expertise at the local level.
