I went to Taipei 101 yesterday for the 3rd time and I wonder about this future tallest building. The top floors are so slim, will this have an active wind damper and where will they place that? Can't wait to be on the top of Brj Dubai...

massive weights in the top of buildings that react indirectly to the sway of the building from outside air conditions.

Usually a hghrises core is reserved for elevator shafts and electrical infrastructure. Look at the Pompideau Center, put all that on the outside reserve the interior core as the spine, and strength of the building allowing for modular add-ons comparable to the revolving restaurant on the concrete shaft of the Seattle Space Needle. Every time another country announces they have "The World's Tallest Building" just add onto the spine, and connect a module. This way your country will always have the tallest building.
Hey 'buffer, thats an interesting idea and right now I cant think of anything wrong with it. My head does hurt right now though.

AMAZING, for any who have not seen it, please take the time to watch this.

I guess the video was made by members of this form, so I would like to first Thank them, and second ask, how many of these projects are actually under construction, or at least still planned. I know way back there was talk on here that DubaiLand I think was dead for now.

Also what id the tower that appears to be 4 building that bend about half way up, and perhaps join each other after that.

Thanks, it was best video I seen in a long time.
hey there..

yes i did this video

it is hard to say how many projects are UC in Dubai at the moment.. we are talking about 100s of billions of US $.

You might look in the Dubai Boom Rundown thread by malec to see all towers etc.

i think the buildings you are talking about are the Dancing Tower, designed by Zaha Hadid. Those three towers will make the centerpiece of Business Bay.

Burj Doesn't have mass dampers? Will it sway in sand-filled winds?

OMG how far from the center will it swing? I think they will have a damper but maybe above the mid level where there are still rooms to put it. I imagined what will happen if I'm in hte top floor and there's no wind damper I might vomit all day...

guys as far as i know the dampers are there not for wind.. but for earthquake so it decrease the vibration wavelength by acting opposite to the lateral forces exerted by the earthquake...

This is an aerodynamic building, and the design is changed and finalised based on results from computer simulation and wind tunnel testing of several models in different scaled-sizes.

The architects after all these, thought that there is no need for a dumper, so if they say so, I tend to belive them more then anyone else.

Taipei 101 is a box, Burj Dubai isn't. Same as with cars: The boxy Mitsubishi EVO and Subary Impreza need a HUGE wing to keep them on the road, while aerodynamically shapped Porsches and Ferraris DON'T.

the dampers are not only for earthquake but also to minimized the sway of the building to winds blowing in it sides. I agree with Altind, perhaps the design which looks like a tube pyramids already helps lessen the impact of winds on the sway of the building, but will never know if they have a technological advancement that replaces dampers

Not as its important, but Porsches and Ferraris have diffusors, which basically have the same effect as wings, but much stronger, and costs more also..

i absolutly love this building.so much so that i am making a trip there on the 15th august. can anyone tell me how high it will be by that time and if it will be the tallest building in the world by then.

also does anyone know of any suitable hotels/places to stay on a budget?

o and another random question do the malls have late night shopping, i promised her they would so we/i could spend the days gorping at buildings and as a payoff go shopping at night.

great thread guys!!!
