2 things, the twer is classed as 29 floors because the top floor is unusable due to air con units, so it wasd probably 30 floors in the past but now only 29. the lifts still have floors 30 on them but you cant go to the 30th floor.
the hieght increase will ad 4 floors making it 34 but the top florr will be air con units etc..... the surveyors are again on site today and are in the main tower which means there looking at the structure of the tower. as the tower will be the first to empty it makes sense to start on the first. the complete site high and low rise should be empty by the end of april allowing work to commence |

Hamiltons new website will be up at the end of this week, so if they are working on a new design we may see it then.

well make are likely to leave up the old scheme for some time. even if its not built it still shows prospective clients what kind of designs they can come up with for tall buildings. hopefully hammerson's site will have the new renders once it is up and running

200 people are moving out of the building today, 600 next weekend, then 350 the weekend after. altogeter 2,500 people need to be moved! the top 5 floors in the tower are now empty and gutting work begins tommorow from what i heard. the waste material will be held on the floors until the whole building is empty from tenents.

I don't see that much point in recladding this building at the moment. It hasn't aged that badly and to me it looks really good on the skyline. However, I suppose it is inevitable, and it is going to be taller so I guess I support the scheme. Here's a larger render I found:-

I like the idea too but the colour seems to be an attempt to get noticed, and I think for the wrong reasons.

Quote off of IPC media web site regarding kings reach!
"It is understood that the plans to redevelop KRT have been put back by 10 years by the new landlord and their intention now is to let it as office space on short-term leases. Our lease requires us to leave the building in the condition we found it, which means removing all the partitions and the restaurant, etc. We have asked if they still want us to do this if they’re letting it out as offices." |

It does beg the question who they think will want to take offices in a tatty run down building. The least they will have to do is spruce up the floors & an internal re-fit for new tennants. What with Land Secs wanting to build an office tower & GPE also gonna build a new 16 storey tower from 2009 on Blackfriars Rd & the rest of bankside & More London & the other new developments such as LBT & Mini Shard around the Southbank then Kings Reach is going to be left behind.
Had they proceeded with the partial redevelopment & extension of the MAKE scheme they might have got new grade A offices to market before many of their rivals. Waiting ten years doesn't make sense as all of the above & probably a lot more will be built by then. |
