And French buy mostly French cars, so there are always five or six models; in Spain, Netherlands, the UK or Germany you can see much more different cars. For instance, here, nobody buys Japanese or Korean cars (maybe Toyota is different since they have a factory in Northern France, but there are no Hondas, Hyundais or Mazdas), people buy French (cheap) or German (expensive). Going outside Paris is like: Renault Clio - Renault Twingo - Peugeot 206 - Citroën C3 - Renault Mégane - Peugeot 307 - Renault Clio - Renault Twingo... :P
In which country do you live ?

i would agree with you. even in a foreign country like Ghana, i saw a lot of french companies buying the same cars from 3 manufacturers, citroen, peugot and renault. you would go to a french company's parking lot and 99% of the cars all come from the 3 french manufacturers i mentioned above. Just an observation, though i have not been to Paris so i can't say for sure what the situation is over there.

Yes you're right, yesterday I saw 101 % of French cars on a car park !!!
With this rate, I think I'm the winner !

In France, the rates in 01/07 are:
Renault: 22,3%
Peugeot: 16,1%
Citroen: 13%
Total France: 51,5%

Volkswagen: 7%
Toyota+Lexus: 5,8%
Ford: 4,7%
Opel: 3,9%
Mercedes: 3,6%
BMW: 2,6%
...

In 2006, on 2 Million cars sold:
Renault Clio: 169 376 (8,4%)
Renault Mégane: 160 665 (8%)
Peugeot 307: 97 297 (4,8%)
Peugeot 207: 77 581 (3,8%)
Citroën C3: 70 246 (3,5%)
Peugeot 206: 65 200 (3,2%)
Citroën C4: 60 185 (3%)
Peugeot 407: 54 646 (2,7%)
Ford Focus: 40 646 (2%)
Renault Twingo: 38 133 (1,9%)

Please base your remarks on facts...

Mini Cooper is German
and this car is very frequent in Paris.

For Rolls Royce I would agree but with Paris traffic this car is too big

For see Rolls Royce you should go in Cannes, St Tropez etc.

Good analysis but these 9 cars represent 40% of the total market, not 99%...

Monaco as a country. Maranello as a town/city.

Koengisegg is Swedish. Koenig, the Ferrari tuner, is german.

Compared to American cars, hong kong cars (not the luxury ones, i suppose, but a lot of the hi-aces and toyotas) have body kits that give it a bit of a modded flavor compared to the blander american cars, perhaps i shouldn't have used the term riced... but i'm betting that's where the term stemmed from.

Hong Kong cars are better looking than cars i see around here.

With 51% market shares (now plunging because of Toyota, like in every country in the world), the French prefer to buy their own manufacturer's cars...but look at Japan: the first two foreign manufacturers there are Volkswagen and Peugeot, but you can count how many you saw in one day on your fingers. Don't German prefer to buy BMW, Benz and Audi?

Well, it depends. If you are talking ABSOLUTE NUMBERS, the United States/Germany pretty much crushes anyone, but if you are talking about percentages, the US and Germany might be joined by the United Kingdom and by smaller rich countries like Singapore, Monaco, UAE, etc...

But then, what is the definition of a "good-looking" car? Any german car? That's a question a little bit too subjective... since beauty is relative.
