I'm always laghing when reading "close to Niğde". I know that it's 'silent ğ' letter, but in Serbian, word NIGDE, means NOWHERE. So "close to Niğde" is "close to nowhere"....

As I found on a slideshow (109 MB) of Ministry of Transportation, All divided roads of Turkey were 6101 km on 2003. Today, it's 19327. It's planning to be 22500km on 2012 and 32Mm (megametres=1000km) on 2035.

There's more;
3 cable-stayed bridges are planning. One is Ağın Bridge on Elazığ, 2nd is Nissibi Bridge(420m span, two towers) on Atatürk Dam reservoir and 3rd is Kömürhan Bridge (360m span, single tower) on Malatya-Elazığ.

Planning Otoyollar (Click for details);
Red: completed, orange: u/c, black: construction started recently, green: planning at 1st phase, turquoise: planning at 2nd phase

I saw that map on Domus Ludicrae Maximae (European Skybar), on thread Maps of Europe and the rest of the world, part V. I like that plan of otoyollari, it's perfect for Turkey. But I believe 4 lanes is enough, 6 is too much IMO for some otoyollari.
And I use megametres too, I prefer to use Mm instead of thousands of km.

Yeah, 2 extra lanes are such an asphalt and money waste. But 2x2 isn't enough for intermetropolitans. Also, the main corridors of D roads (Karayolları) should be 3x2 with Otoyol asphalt IMO.

BTW, does the collector roads counted with total lanes?

Some old documents I found on an e-auction site;
Cover of roadmap with 1962 logo of TCK (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Karayolları) with "The place where you can't go isn't yours." motto: http://urun.gittigidiyor.com/1962-Yi...QQidZZ17677839
1975 map cover featuring a part of the first Otoyol: http://urun.gittigidiyor.com/1975-SE...QQidZZ33119465
1978 postcard of Bosphorus Bridge: http://urun.gittigidiyor.com/BOGAZIC...QQidZZ21817756
1980 photo of Kennedy Sahilyolu of Istanbul (was a part of present D-100): http://urun.gittigidiyor.com/1980-Tu...QQidZZ16096136

Are there plans for additional urban expressways in Istanbul?

I think he meant non-intercity roads.
Basically, Otoyols (but O-1) and Bosphorus bridges are owned by 17th division of KGM. O-1 (cuz it has a bus lane), auxillary otoyollar and other urban roads are owned by Metropolitan Municipality of İstanbul including these by-pass tunnels;

Nope, that large viaduct is in Slovenia and the last picture seems to be Chinese. Turkish motorways are nearly always 2x3 lanes and 2x2 roads are of lower quality often.

When you delete these two photos that are not Turkey, Turkish motorways are one of the reasons why I love Turkey!

Turkish highways look nice, but they're almost empty out of the cities.

It doesn't mean that it will stay that way forever. That's why I salute Turkey for making such a wide motorways and thinking about future.
