There is a 2x2 road which is not a motorway. It is not grade separated as well.

TEM: Trans-European Motorway

If you prefer Karaağaç (Pazarkule) border crossing.

It's 3x2,

That's only until Silivri, but then it continues to Bulgaria.

From the border at Kipoi-Ipsala to Silivri it's a 2x2 road http://goo.gl/maps/oa8j3. Then it's a very nice motorway to Instanbul.

Drove through it 3 years ago. Not the best surface at times, but you can keep a velocity of around 100kph. It goes through towns, so the limit is lower there, but the oncoming cars are polite and flash their headlights to warn you of police checks. No problems, go for it.

Looks like the financial wheels are loose on the 2 Road Megaprojects which will not be ready before 2016 and still need lots of cash. I mean the Northern Bypass of Istanbul and megabridge across the Bosporos and the Istanbul-Izmir motorway with another megabridge at Izmet near Istanbul....both projects costing around €6bn each to complete.

http://www.todayszaman.com/news-3458...rt-budget.html

Quote:
In a statement that surprised the markets on Tuesday, Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said in Ankara that he “does not know” if a new law requiring the Treasury to act as a guarantor of multi-billion-dollar projects will hurt the public budget balances.

The government decided last week that the Treasury would provide a major financial guarantee to certain build-operate-transfer (BOT) and build-lease-transfer (BLT) projects, according to Turkish news reports on Sunday. This means that Turkey's ongoing mega-projects, worth as much as 30 billion euro, could be undertaken by the Treasury in the event of unforeseen circumstances causing the projects' failure or suspension. Observers have criticized the government for putting the public budget balances at risk with the decision.
I suspect the Airport ( not the 2 roads) will be quietly dropped after the election in a few months.
