I suppose because there is no physical separation between both directions.

I thought it may be because of winter conditions.

Dear turkish forumers,

I have one question: which of the Karayollari network have really 2x2 highway (expressway in many countries) standarts? AFAIN we can consider D650 Sakarya - Bozuyuk, some part of Karadeniz Sahil Yolu and maybe D200 Eskisehir - Ankara? Is it all? And does the government plan to upgrade some of the normal double roads?

Here is a very detailed map....2x2 is standard, many times (close to cities) 3 or even 4 lanes

I think he is rather asking which of these 2x2 roads have highway (otoban) quality.

Additional to what has been listed above I know Eskişehir -Adapazarı (west of Istanbul) which is an extension of Ankara - Eskişehir D200.

I appreciate the planning for the future on Turkish motorways, but 2x3 lanes all the way from Edirne to Istanbul is completely unnecessary, the traffic counts are below 25,000 vehicles per day until you reach Silivri.

Pls have in mind that there are lot of trucks, so 3 lanes are very good for driving.
It can be very unpleasant to drive on 2x2 motorway with lot of trucks and buses especially when they try to overtake each other. Or when Turkish Tarzan La Volan start his engine...

On the other side right after that, up to the further suburbs of Istanbul, you have a long 2x2 stretch - it's a pain in the a** to drive there.

Istanbul needs 8 lines motorways like in LA ,TEM is okay but first ring road lanes width and surface quality are unsufficient, every hour is rushhour in istanbul traffic.
