Kailash Logistics charts Rs 1,120 crore modern WH plans
Quote:
Shri Kailash Logistics, part of the Rs 360 crore Kochi-based diversified industrial group, charts a major plan to set up modern warehouses at a total investment of Rs 1,120 crore in south and western parts of the country, as it expects the implementation of GST (goods and services tax) be a big game changer for the logistics warehouse industry in the country.

As part of the proposed plan, the company is set to launch its first ultra modern logistics park called Logicity at the Oragadam manufacturing corridor near Chennai. The Rs 320 crore modern supply chain infrastructure facility will have 10 lakh sq ft of warehouse (WH) space, including a cold storage. The first phase with a ready-to-occupy WH space of 3.25 lakh sq ft and a commercial space of 25,000 sq ft will formally be inaugurated in a couple of weeks.

“Logicity is a first of its kind in this part of the country as the WH space is built to international standards to meet the emerging customer needs. The space is not sold but offered on long term lease and all necessary common facilities are offered on a shared platform for low cost operations,” S Giridhar, managing director of Shri Kailash Logistics said.

Little over two lakh sq ft of WH space of Logicity has already been occupied by two auto ancillaries, while the company is close to finalise the deals with two or three companies for the remaining space. The second phase will add seven lakh sq ft including a cold storage for agri commodities and is expected to be ready over the next two years. The company has funded its first project through a combination of equity and debt.

With a land bank of about 50 acres, the company can also add another 10 lakh sq ft of WH space at Logicity based on the demand. By establishing in a strategic location, the company hopes to attract FMCG and auto firms that would be looking for one centralised WH. “Chennai is going to become a warehousing hub for Tamil Nadu and Kerala,” Giridhar said.

Meanwhile, the company is also planning to set up ultra modern warehouses in northern part of Chennai, Coimbatore, Pune, Cochin and Bangalore. It is expected to invest Rs 800 crore to add about 40 lakh sq ft of warehousing space in these locations over the next five years. It has also identified lands for the proposed projects. The one it is planning in Chennai is likely to be set up for FMCG companies and will also comprise a cold storage facility and about 50 acre land has been identified for the project. Kailash Logistics is in talks with a few strategic investors to raise funds for the proposed expansion plan.

The company’s aggressive expansion plans come on the back of strong growth outlook for the modern warehousing industry in view of the proposed introduction of GST. Presently, manufacturers have several warehouses at multiple locations for goods movement in order to save on central sales tax. However, with the phasing out of CST and implementation of GST, there is likely to be a ‘single large warehouse for the region’ concept.

My goodness!!!!

Its indeed huge and enormous.... Thanks AXF for the wonderful find.... Extremely grateful.

Surely, it has lot of resemblances to Grand Hyatt structure in Dubai and elsewhere....

Good to see the gigantic structure coming soon to Kochi's skyline......

The structure is indeed mega... Wish, they do something iconic with the roofing and exterior appearance, than regular glass structure or painted walls.....

Something like Suntec Singapore

or Abu Dhabi's ADNEC

Being waterfront, at Kochi Harbour, it shall redefine Kochi's skyline and potential for future icons of Kochi City, along with Oceanarium. Ofcourse, somebody's heart has started breaking......

Kochi is really rocking indeed!!!!

Leave it to the group chairman. He know how to play the cards. He is very powerful both here in Middle East and India.

It should be Grand Hyatt, unless the group can convince HYATT to rope in the prime brand to Kochi, the next MICE destination.

From the render, i believe the hotel must be a huge one.

Income Tax department sets up call centres
Quote:
The Income Tax department has got a little more tech-savvy. In an effort to bridge the gap between taxman and the taxpayer, the department has started five call centres across the country to attend to queries from general public.

The main centre is in Gurgaon, with regional ones in Jammu, Shillong, Kochi, and Jangipur in West Bengal, which is also union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee's constituency. The Gurgaon call centre started around three months ago with pilot runs underway. It was made operational on a full-fledged basis only recently. The other centres were inaugurated last week, said the chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Laxman Das. CBDT is the governing body for income tax department.

With regional centres, information services will be available in eight regional languages apart from English and Hindi. These centres are expected to cover taxpayers residing in nearby states too, with the set-up in Gurgaon being the main call centre, said Das. The regional languages in which services are available are Assamese, Bengali, Oriya, Punjabi, Kashmiri, Malayalam and Tamil and Khasi, a north-eastern language.

The taxpayers can get services by dialling 1961 which is a toll free number and can get a host of basic information about the department. Inquiries can be made about application for a permanent application number (PAN), e-filing of returns, payment of refunds, TDS and other information. Information about the ward under whose jursidcriction a taxpayer comes is also available. Although this would be only the basic information instead of any major advice on tax planning, said Das, while talking to newspersons at the sidelines of this valediction function.

There is no much scope for environmentalists in this project, primarily because there is no mangrove trees here.

Even though the credit goes to the photographer, which is not me, you have put a valid point here. But the carrier now is not under construction stage. It happens inside the shipyard. There was news about it sometime back, as the carrier was moved out to accommodate some other work, while the major works of the IAC have been completed.

Well I did visit CSY in apr 2011 and I was dumbfounded with the lack of security cover given to the IAC construction blocks which was laid across the yard. We still have a long way to go when it comes to follow appropriate security procedures and protocols. I was shocked to know the views of few employees when asked about the same. They were of the opinion who would take the trouble to come all the way down to Kochi to sabotage or covertly gather technical details of this program. I believe it's this lackluster attitude that brings a whole lot of trouble in this country. I do appreciate the beauty of all the pics but wanted to stress that photography is a risky art when it comes to matters like this, irrespective of who the photographer is.

Well,

I was once told by a tourist boat crew member that, since for year, they were not allowed to take any kind of ferry beyond Rajendra Maidan area. You can know, the Foreshore Jetty has been closed down for more than 2 years with no activity....

It may appear no security. But not as one believe. There are N number of RAW Agents and IB Officials in the area. You can always spot on atleast one helicopter patrolling the area....... No need to mention N number of Marine police vehicles patrolling Ernakulam Channel. Equally I was surprised, that Special Branch has once collected details of entire apartments with Shipyard view in the nearby Mather flat....

Ofcourse, our security procedures may not too classified or stringent as one see in US or Europe countries. After all India is India itself....

But its not worthless to say, its absolutely a free run. Enough and far more security is there... Anyway, Kochi can expect sooner expect the grand launch of India's new IAC.........

It seems, the project is still on the hot burner, even after Piravom election!

V-Guard to invest Rs 550 cr in amusement parks
Quote:
The V-Guard group on Monday announced two new amusement parks at Chennai and Hyderabad with a combined investment of Rs 550 crore.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Arun Chittilappilly, managing director of Wonderla Holidays Private Limited, said 55 acres of land had already been acquired in Hyderabad and construction would start soon. The park is expected to be functional by 2014. The investment in each theme park works out to be at Rs 210 crore, including the cost of land.

Luxury resorts will also be set up in each park and at the Kochi amusement park. The group recently opened a resort with 84 luxury rooms and five fully equipped business halls at Wonderla theme park in Bangalore.

Mithun Chittilappilly, managing director of V-Guard Industries said the company would introduce two new products — domestic switch gear and induction cooker — soon. The group has also started a new vertical in the construction segment by launching Veegaland Developers Private Limited.

The new company would begin apartment projects at Kaloor and Vazhakkala in Kochi.

The Kaloor project will have 84 budget apartments while the other project will have high-end premium apartments, said Kochouseph Chittilappilly, executive vice chairman of the group.

In 2011-12, the group's turnover crossed Rs 1,000 crore for the first time with Rs 228 crore coming from the north Indian market.
