BMW India announces opening of Platino Classic in Kochi

Kochi: BMW India announced opening of Platino Classic, its dealership in Kochi. Platino Classic brings to Kochi the BMW standards of sales and service and the same international experience as any BMW dealership worldwide.

The showroom is located on Vyatilla Aroor Bye Pass Road, Maradu and a fully equipped workshop will be functional in a few months at the same location. The interim workshop is located at Vyatilla on NH 47 Bye Pass Road. The showroom and workshop are headed by Mr. P.P. Ashique, Managing Director, Platino Classic.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Peter Kronschnabl, President, BMW India said, “Today we are proud to open our 12th dealership in India. Our partnership with Platino Classic is reflective of BMW’s efforts to connect with its consumers and provide high quality services that are at par with international standards. We are confident that this new partnership in Kochi, the Gateway to Kerala and an important market for us, will help fuel BMW’s growth plans in India.”
The showroom and workshop covers approximately 11500 sq ft of space and offers the customers a unique retail environment. The showroom is evolved on the signature-BMW concept of street display and the pavement flanking alongside as the customer area. The workshop will have 4 service bays and 1 diagnostic bay capable of servicing 15-20 cars a day.

All operations related to sales are efficiently covered from the space, which ensures comfort to the customer at the point of sales.

As with every other BMW dealership, Platino Classic will be provided intense training in management of sales, service, spare parts and business systems to ensure customers receive best-in-class pre and post sales ownership experience. A team of service engineers will also be trained at BMW’s training centers in Singapore, Malaysia and Germany.

State urges Manmohan to decide on model for Kochi metro rail

Merchants seek speedy implementation of the project
KOCHI: With the Union Urban Development Ministry and the Union Planning Commission differing on the model of implementing the Kochi metro rail project, the State Government has requested the Prime Minister to decide whether it should be implemented as a joint venture or as a public private partnership.

On Thursday, Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan and Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy met the Prime Minister in New Delhi, to submit a memorandum asserting that the project should be implemented as a JV between the Centre and State, as suggested by the Urban Ministry.

It is reliably learnt that they also affirmed their preference for a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation-pattern to carry out the project that would considerably bring down traffic congestion in Kochi.

A high-ranking official in the State Transport Department said that with the Urban Ministry and the Planning Commission suggesting divergent modes to implement the project, the sole way out is for the Prime Minister to have his final say in the matter.

KOCHI: Arbitron of the U.S. is in the final stages of setting up its fully owned subsidiary, Arbitron India, in Kochi.

Arbitron is an international media and marketing research firm serving the media; radio, television, cable, online radio and out-of-home as well as advertisers and advertising agencies in the United States and Europe for the last sixty years. The Kochi centre, with an investment of over ten million dollars, is to come up at Tejomaya, L&T IT park inside Infopark. The centre will be formally inaugurated on January 5 by Steve Morris, chairman and President and CEO of Arbitron Inc.

Talking to reporters Shilen Sagunan, managing director and Vijoy Gopalakrishnan, manager (Analytics) of Arbitron said the Kochi centre would be set up as a world class facility for software engineering. It will play a key role in the development of technology and providing operational support for the implementation of Arbitron’s flagship service, Portable People Meter and other products which are being installed throughout the US and other countries.

Answering a question, they said the global meltdown has not affected companies like Arbitron, which continues to be on a growth path and is going on recruiting people. The centre would employ 280 technocrats in the beginning and is expected to double this number within a year.
