It appears that tram had short-circuited dead man switch, thus it started moving without an engineer.
In some CIS cities this switches are short-circuited by engeniers, so they shouldn't bother controlling it Not sure if this is such case.

Why not buses and Metro trains?

If we will discuss each single episode, it would took in three times more pages. And what point of this? I can understand if it would had some systematic character and we would were able to discuss about problems of transport infrastructure on such examples. If it is not, it's better to create New Thread "Transport accidents in Russia", "Transport accidents through all world" or something like this.

"Bombardier" and "Uralvagonzavod" to jointly develop metros and trams in Russia

16 July 2012

"Bombardier Transportation" has signed co-operation agreements with Russian rail manufacturer "Uralvagonzavod" (UVZ) to jointly develop and sell metros and trams.

Trains developed under the deal will be designed to meet the needs of operators like Moscow Metro and networks in other Russian cities. "Bombardier" will also provide UVZ with a licence to build and sell low-floor trams with "Bombardier" technology in Russia.

"Bombardier" said that the licensed product will be a variant of its Flexity platform of vehicles, which are designed for operation mainly on existing networks. UVZ chief executive officer Oleg Sienko said the agreement to introduce these metros and trams to Russia will significantly push the development of the mass transit sector, and enhance the image of major Russian cities in the run-up to the 2018 World Cup. "Our joint engineering and production will ensure that the world's leading urban transport is available to Russians and built in Russia," Sienko said.

Under the terms of the agreement, "Bombardier" will transfer technology to Russia, provide training to UVZ staff at Bombardier's European facilities, develop joint design and produce the trains. The facilities to build the trains are expected to be located at "Uraltransmash". UVZ plans to set up three plants to produce different types of trams.

"Bombardier Transportation" president and chief operating officer André Navarri said the new transport solution will set new standards in mobility and passenger comfort. "By teaming up with a strong local partner, we can offer passengers a new standard of public transport as the sustainable way to travel in the 21st century and help their country prepare to host a global championship," Navarri said.

Over the next decade, Moscow Metro is planning to invest in new trains as it renews its fleet and expands its network. The metros and trams planned to be built will be equipped with Bombardier FLEXX Urban 3000 bogies and Mitrac 500 propulsion and control systems.

Well, let me to hope that they will help to improve exterior design and interior of above-mentioned model.

Well, it's a pretty remarkable accident, I don't think that every small accident will be posted.

In my opinion, the point of this thread (as well as other other threads in this subforum) to inform people about the condition of the transport infrastructure in own city/country, about the actual problems and development of urban transport, as well as about current plans for further development.

Thus, the readers can learn about positive or negative experience in solving the transport problem in other cities and countries.

That's why I find it hard to understand what is valuable in such information about single transport incident. How does it relate with general condition of the transport infrastructure in St. Petersburg? If you think that there exist connection between this particular case and the general condition of tram network, write your comment to this photo.

That's how I see point of this thread, not just in posting of many random beautiful and terrible photos.
