For a while now, I have not been able to figure out whether Samara Metro extension is under construction or if it's just a bunch of gastarbeiters hanging out.

Are these guys doing anything?

How about this crew of gentlemen right here?

Well, it's seem that something is going under the ground (although it's difficult to do it due to lack of funding). Few days ago there was completed construction of the 0.4-km long left tunnel between "Alabinskaya" and dead ends. So, it remained to complete construction of the right tunnel.

http://news.progorodsamara.ru/news/view/154749

If there was uncompleted Metro station in Moscow in such condition, its construction would be completed within two months, not after two years.

August 29, 2013. The reopening of the western vestibule. This vestibule was closed since May 18, 2013 due to full replacement of the bad-quality escalators:

The new escalators are equipped with motion detectors - its speed is depends from actual passenger flow. If passenger flow is low, its speed of operation will be slower:

The new escalators were commissioned just in time - to my visit in Nizhny Novgorod I visited this interesting city next day and lived four days (August 30 - September 2) near Metro station "Gorkovskaya". I can to confirm that German escalators are definately better and less noisy than previous ones.

The new escalators at Metro station "Gorkovskaya" (this is not my own video - I recorded a lot of video from Nizhny Novgorod Metro, but didn't loaded it on YouTube):

For comparison - previous escalators at the first day of operation (November 5, 2012):

ST. PETERSBURG METRO

August 22, 2013. TBM "Herrenknect" was delivered to the construction site of the future Metro station "Shushary" (Line 5). It will be first time in Russia when TBM will be used for construction of one tunnel of larger diameter for serving of both track ways - between future Metro stations "Shushary" and "Prospekt Slavy" ("Glory Avenue"; Line 5). The construction of this large tunnel is expected to be launched in coming months:

The excavations at the site of the Assumption (Saviour) Church on the Hay Square (constructed in 1753-1765; blown up on February 1, 1961; planned to be restored) as well as construction of the own vestibule of Metro station "Spasskaya" ("Saviour"; Line 4; opened on March 7, 2009) which is planned to be opened on November 7, 2013:

The creation of mosaic panel at the future ground-level vestibule of Metro station "Spasskaya" ("Saviour"; Line 4; opened on March 7, 2009) which is planned to be opened on November 7, 2013. This mosaic panel will be dedicated to the history of the Hay Square at which located future vestibule. Among other people, there will be depicted portraits of the great Russian writers (such as Alexander Pushkin, Nikolay Gogol and Nikolay Nekrasov) and characters of their books (Rodion Raskolnikov, Sonya Marmeladova, Parfyon Rogozhin and others) who often visited Hay Square:

Thyssen, Otis, Schindler, Kone are the main suppliers of escalators in Europe. Thyssen did a good job for decades building escalators for Berlin U-Bahn. But I think the other ones (except Kone) are not bad, too. There is Doppelmayr from Austria (doing the funicular in Nishni Novgiorod) and Kleemann from Greece (Kilkis). Also LG from South-Korea. Would like to know if they are also into metro-business.

Which companies build escalators in Russia? Do they have joint-ventures with western companies?

Kind regards
