MOSCOW TROLLEYBUS

November 15, 1933. The opening of Moscow Trolleybus - the first trolleybus system in Soviet Union. LK-1 trolleybus №2 at Volokolamsk Highway, turnover ring "Ring Railway". The first Soviet model of trolleybus (LK-1) was named after Lazar Kaganovich (1893-1991), who was one of the main associates of Joseph Stalin, People's Commissar of Railways of the USSR (1935-1937) as well as supervisor of construction of Moscow Metro and reconstruction of Moscow in 1930s:

January 15, 1934. The opening of the route along extended trolleybus line to the centre of Moscow. LK-1 trolleybus №1 (constructed in November 1933) on the Revolution Square. By the own construction and conditions of operation, the first Soviet trolleybuses could not compete with other kinds of ground transport. For development of trolleybus, it was necessary to carry out large-scale reconstruction of city roads:

Late-1930s. YaTB-3 trolleybus on the Pushkin Square. YaTB-3 (Yaroslavl TrolleyBus - 3) was only Russian model of double-decker trolleybus that ever operated in Russia and Soviet Union. 10 Soviet double-decker trolleybuses were constructed at Yaroslavl State Automotive Plant (now Yaroslavl Motor Plant) in 1938-1939. However, these trolleybuses had poor maneuverability on the roads covered with snow. During winter periods, stairs to upper storey was too slippery due to slush from the shoes of passengers. In addition, its saloon was too low and uncomfortable for tall passengers. That's why YaTB-3 trolleybuses were written off after few years since the end of WWII:
