RUSSIAN METROS - SUMMARY OF THE YEAR AND FURTHER DEVELOPMENT:

It has become a fashion trend to summarize the years end. And now I will try to do so and fulfill request.

In 2010 in Russia were opened five Metro stations - in Moscow, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg and Kazan. More precisely, only 4.5, since the Metro station in Novosibirsk was closed after 19 days of operation due to lack of official permission. Nevertheless, it's better than last year's result, when were opened 4 stations, 3 of them in Moscow.

Number of the Metro stations, which were opened in Russia since 2000:
2000 - 2 stations: Moscow, Novosibirsk;
2001 - 1 station: Moscow;
2002 - 4 stations: Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Yekaterinburg;
2003 - 6 stations: Moscow (6);
2004 - 0 stations;
2005 - 8 stations: Kazan (5), Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk;
2006 - 2 stations: Moscow, St. Petersburg;
2007 - 3 stations: Moscow (2), Samara;
2008 - 6 stations: Moscow (3), St. Petersburg (2), Kazan;
2009 - 4 stations: Moscow (3), St. Petersburg;
2010 - 5 stations: Moscow (2), St. Petersburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk.

As we can see, a record result was in 2005 when there were opened the first line of the Kazan Metro. The next year, 6 stations planned to be open - in Moscow (3), Yekaterinburg (2) and St. Petersburg.

In the next posts I will write about results of 2010 and plans for the near future.

MOSCOW METRO

2010 - THE MOST SIGNIFICANT EVENTS:

2010 was an anniversary year for the Moscow Metro. The first Metro line in the Soviet capital was opened on May 15, 1935.

Unfortunately, on 29 March 2010 for the first time within 6 years, passengers have been victims of terrorist attacks. These were suicide bombings carried out by two women during the morning rush hour at two stations, "Lubyanka" and "Park Kultury", with roughly 40 minutes interval between.

As a result of the actions of terrorists, which were widely supported by Western propaganda and Western pseudo-liberals, at least 40 people (37 Russians and 3 Tajiks) were killed and over 100 injured (including 3 Malaysians, Filipino, Kyrgyz and Israelite).

On June 19, 2010 were opened 181st and 182nd stations of the Moscow Metro - "Dostoevskaya" ("Fyodor Dostoevsky") and "Maryina Roshcha" ("Mary's Grove").

Thus, the Moscow Metro has overcome a symbolic mark - 300 km. Now its total length is 301.2 km (187.2 miles).

"DOSTOEVSKAYA":

"Dostoyevskaya" is a Moscow Metro station in the Meshchansky District, Central Administrative Okrug, Moscow. It is on the Line 10, between "Maryina Roshcha" and "Trubnaya" stations. The station has two exits. One is near the building of the Russian Army Theater. Another exit leads to Suvorov Square.

The construction of the station started in the 1990s though soon the station was conserved due to insufficient funding. The construction process resumed only in 2007 when money flow resumed and right and left rail tunnels were built. The construction of the platform began then. In April 2009 the lack of funds forced the Moscow Metro authorities to delay the station's opening to May 2010. Several days before the supposed opening date it was delayed again to June 2010 due to escalators adjustment.

The station was supposed to have a transfer to Ring Line station "Suvorovskaya Ploshchad" ("Suvorov Square") though the latter is not being built. According to the authorities the station and transfer to "Dostoevskaya" will be built only after the completion of the northern part of the line.

"Dostoevskaya" is deep-level (depth - 60 meters) tri-vaulted station of the column-wall type. It was named for nearby Dostoevskaya Street, where in 1821 great Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky was born.

Mariinsky Hospital, Dostoyevsky's birthplace:

Wikipedia

The architects of the station were Lev Popov and Natalya Rasstegnyaeva. The station is decorated with marble mosaics by artist Ivan Nikolayev. Published photos of station's decor elements caused disputes in Russian Internet community. There are two scenes of violence (homicide and suicide) depicted on the station walls as an illustration of Fyodor Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment", along with many other scenes (including illustrations of "The Idiot", "The Brothers Karamazov" and "The Possessed"). However, there have been no suicides at this station since its opening.

On April 24, 2010 was finished long restoration of the iconic Metro station "Mayakovskaya" ("Vladimir Mayakovsky"; opened on September 11, 1938). On September 2, 2005 was opened second (northern) exit of the station. From September 26, 2005 till May 15, 2007 there were reconstruction works of the old southern vestibule (replacement of the oldest escalators). At the same time began the long process of the restoration of station.
