NOVOSIBIRSK METRO

The new train started to operate in the Novosibirsk Metro. This train was made in St. Petersburg plant and arrived in Novosibirsk on November 28, 2010. The reason for its buying was the extension of Line 2 with the station "Zolotaya Niva" ("Golden Cornfield"). This station was opened on October 7, 2010, but was closed on October 26 due to lack of the official permission. According to officials, this station can be reopened in coming days.

The city autorities declared about the date of the opening of two stations. The stations "Chkalovskaya" ("Valery Chkalov") and "Botanicheskaya" ("Botanical") are planned to be opened on December 1, 2011. Previously they said about December 22 as a possible date of opening. But on December 4 will be held legislative elections in Russia, and officials decided that it will be better if the Metro stations will be open before elections, not after. Therefore, it's a significant holiday for Nizhny Novgorod, where in 1612 was gathered Second Voluntary Army for the Russia's struggle for independence against Polish-Lithuanian invasion. The Nizhny Novgorod Metro Bridge which will link "Gorkovskaya" and other stations on the left bank of the Oka River, was also opened for the automobile movement in the National Unity Day, on November 4, 2009.

That's excellent news! They've been waiting for more than 3 months. Keep us posted.

Now that it seems that Yekaterinburg is bringing south side metro extension forward by 3 weeks due to political reasons, I hope they'll get all their permits in order and have it open for real and not end up a disgrace like Novosibirsk (that would be quiet a cheap election stunt!)

Also, is Volgograd the only city in former USSR using three-sectioned trams? I know there is also a metrotram in Krivoy Rog and express tram in Kiev, but I don't think they've introduced this technology yet.

Yes, I'm agree. This has become a bad Russian tradition to open uncompleted stations before the elections or national holidays (now it's more important to open the station in late December than after few days in early January).

However, the future Yekaterinburg Metro stations in a high degree of readiness now. Therefore, they can be fully completed by December.

These trams (71-154 LVS-2009) are using in St. Petersburg. Here are using Tatra trams for Volgograd Metrotram. However, to extend the current line, they should buy the trams with automatic doors on both sides (like LVS-2009), because it's need to switch from right-hand to left-hand traffic and vice versa. The 10 such trams will be operate at the new route (with three new stations), while Tatra trams will be operate at the old route.

I wonder why the metrotram goes on the left side, as opposed to other urban railways in Russia.

The original Tatratrains that have been and are used in Volgograd are equipped with right side exits only. I guess to be able to offer center platforms in the inner city underground stations one decided to choose this way. On the first image in #812 though you can see a train that goes on the right, if I cam correct, so I suppose there are some track switches in between.

Metrotram goes on the right side when it run on the ground (like ordinary Russian trams). During the stops the doors are opening on the right side. But when it's move under ground, it should switch on left side. During the stops on the majority of the Russian Metro stations the doors of trains are opening from the left side.

An "ordinary underground station" in Moscow is luxurious, compared to most other underground stations outside Russia.

Thank you, but I mean that at this station (like at majority of the other Russian Metro stations) the doors of trains are opening from left side. However, there are few non-ordinary Metro stations in Russia, at which doors of trains are opening from right side.

In this case, it would be better to call it a "standard" or "typical" station.

OK. Sorry for my "breaking English".

Here is very rough scheme of ways of Volgograd Metrotram (sorry, I have no time to draw a more detailed scheme). The underground part of the Volgograd Metrotram in the middle of this scheme:

is the honeycomb motif for the ceiling of Botanicheskaya platform still within the scope of the project? Maybe they should have gone along with trees or flowers, but bees are also a good choice!

And that's excellent news for Novosibirsk. It took a little longer than expected, but Zolotaya Niva is back online!

Excellent. I can imagine the children asking "mom, what do they sell at the Intimate Market?"

On a more serious note, what's going on with the Butovskaya Line extension from Starokachalovskaya to Novoyasenevskaya/Bittsevskiy Park?
