Mexico to tender $1.6 bln in highway projects

HIDALGO, Mexico, June 15 (Reuters) - Mexico plans to tender five projects worth $1.6 billion this year to build hundreds of miles of highways, the government said on Monday, part of an infrastructure program meant to help counter a deep recession.

The projects along the Pacific coast and northwest Mexico could involve Mexican building companies ICA and Ideal <IDEALB1.MX>, which is controlled by billionaire Carlos Slim, Deputy Transport Minister Oscar de Buen told reporters.

"There are five tenders going," he said during a tour of a new highway close to the capital. "Ideal is participating, ICA is participating."

De Buen said the government has earmarked 50 billion pesos ($3.73 billion) this year for highway construction and maintenance, of which 16 billion pesos ($1.19 billion) has already been spent.

He said banks including Spain's Santander and Mexico's Banorte <GFNORTEO.MX> were involved in the projects.

Hit by slumping demand from U.S. consumers, Mexico's economy is seen shrinking around 6 percent this year and the government has launched an infrastructure construction program to boost employment.

The deep economic slump and tight lending conditions have forced other infrastructure projects, like the plan to build the $5 billion Punta Colonet port on the Baja California peninsula, to be postponed or downsized.

(Editing Bernard Orr) ($1 = 13.40 pesos)

I wonder if there is a map online of the future motorway network of Mexico? The roads are built very quickly and most maps in the stores are wrong.

SINALOA HIGHWAYS

SINALOA HIGHWAYS

Well im gonna show you guys some pics of the 15-d highway rout, who runs all the Sinaloa state, and my pics are from Los Mochis to Mazatlan, from northern to southern state, you can also check the changes of the flora alon the road, i think thats is some of the coolest thing that Sinaloa have, in the north we have desert, at the central part we have forests and a lot of agriculture camps and in the south we have beutiful beaches and estuaries, so enjoy it y'all.

If you are driving along the Maxipista, dont forget to pass pver the rest areas, they have awesome views to the coast, like this, Barra de Piaxtla a surfer's paradise

If you are coming from the north, the best option is take Mazatlan Playas exit, is the fastest way to arrive to Cerritos-Marina and Zona Dorada areas

The las kilometers of the Maxipista, from this point you should take the Libramiento and take 15 to Tepic and in Villa Union take 15 to the Sout or 40 to the east, we need a new Libramiento.. i dont know the word in english, but yes we need it cause the south entrance is so ugly and with a lot of trafic

This last pics are from the northern entrance to Mazatlan, is a new 6 lanes highway with palm at the middle is so beutiful, not like the southern one.

The "Costera" MAXIPISTA Culiacan-Mazatlan is for me one of highways in Mexico with better sea view.

Alongside with the highway Tijuana-Ensenada which has an spectacular view also.
