a pointless skyline in the middle of nowhere, just for the WTB and wow effect - 9/10. City itself - 5/10, architecture .... 2/10 (with some exceptional buildings offcourse ... Burj Dubai, Burj al Arab... 10/10 )

However...skyline will never catch up NY, Chitown, Hongkong or cities like Prague, Paris, Rio, Frisco, Seattle.... and many others ...

I find this impossible to rate. It's huge, but seems so disjointed. You don't get a sense of a city, but an edifice complex competition gone mad with highways at ground level. I'd love to visit, but the skyline just doesn't hold the allure of a typical skyline because it all seems so soul less. Most of the draw for me is in the acknowledgement of the dynamism and excitement that exists beneath the towers of a skyline. In Dubai, I know that part is simply not there.

Some facts people don`t know.

Dubai has more topped out skyscrapers with 250m and more than Shanghai and New York.

Dubai also has more skyscrapers with 200m and more than CHicago.

The skyline of Dubai is very tall.

At the end of 2009 Dubai will have more completed skyscraper over 250m and 300m than any other city in the world.

No mather how tall buildings are (even how beautiful) the skyline is just horible! Like a bodybuilder freak on steroids.... shocking but ugly.

To bad for somme exceptional buildings with great arhitecture, cos' the city planning is chaotic. Maybe in the future it will change, cos' now is just a huge constructin site.

The skyline is a 9 - cannot be a 10 in my opinion, because the skyline doesn't really show the history of the city as it is the case with NY, Chicago etc.

Another thing is that it must be HORRIBLE to be a pedestrian in Dubai. Look at the wide streets etc. Hmm...I guess that this is why most activities take place inside shopping malls (and the heat of course).

I look forward to visiting Dubai!

It looks pretty messay at the moment, but in a few years it's going to be a certain 10/10. From aerial pictures it definitely needs some landscaping...

Some big buildings, but too far away one from the others. Burj Dubai is astonishing, but in a certain way it doesn´t seem fit in the skyline, just like Taipei 101 in Taipei. It´s like a skyline with some holes, but good anyway.

the thing about dubai is that only a few stand out, instead of all of them. burj dubai is more of a lone tree planted on a grassfield, while al burj will be its twin. something like that.

remember that a skyline doesn't matter in terms of height. the beauty of the skyline depends on the harmony of the skyscrapers in that skyline.. and i can't see dubai in it.

in the future, if the propsed skyscrapers are around 3000+ ft, and there are thousands of them, and that's when duabi will become a true world-class skyline.

so. 8.5.

Agreed. The buildings buy themselfes are great, but seeing them in the same image, the way they are disposed seems kind of weird.
