Is that fog or a sandstorm in some of the pics?

I say 2/10 for a lot of reasons, none of which is targeted just at Dubai per ce. First I don't like a city with almost all new buildings because I personally like a mix between new and old. I don't like how the air looks really nasty and smog filled (which my not be true for Dubai, but none the less), this is also a reason why NY, LA, etc will never be my favorite city. Another reason is it is growing WAY too fast, even when cities can grow that fast they shouldn't IMO, again not just Dubai but Phoenix, Tuscon, and other cities on the Sun Belt. I said a two and not a zero or one for Dubai because some of the buildings I like (not the Burj Dubai) and I like how the city is planning for the future with mass transit, alternative energy, etc.

It's a two-dimensional skyline built in a desert. Tallness doesn't equate to an attractive looking skyline. Most of it looks tacky or dated, but there are a few decent projects.

Look how sparse it is: http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/onblac...676&size=large

Bizarre how some of you rate it higher than New York's or Hong Kong's skyline

That is the Marina Skyline... I like that, not a strip of buildings along the road.

Looking at the current pictures even the 2003 pic looks extremely old now.

The rate of growth in Dubai has been very impressive and I think that its a bit unreasonable to expect it to compare to established skylines like NY. The things I admire about Dubai would not only be the rate its growing at, but the architectural and engineering marvels of its scrapers!

The magnificence of Dubai is not surprising since it is a city built by slaves.
