I'm not sure about Dubai.
Dubai builds a lot of skyscrapers for a reason. It's government wants it to become an important city like Singapore and Hong Kong. That's why it tries to develop it as much as possible while the other Arab states can invest hundreds of billions of dollars from their oil income.
The UAE is perhaps the only country around the Persian gulf who prepares itself for the day after the oil.

First, Dubai is an empty or artificial city. I love the buildings, the skyline and the architecture, but the one thing that bothers me about a city like Dubai is that at the end is a city that is empty and with no one living in it. It doesn't have the soul or culture that you get or comes to mind when you see a picture of New york or even Hong Kong. Hell, even a smaller city like Prague or Vienna have more life than Dubai and it doesn't have the amazing construction or infrastructure that Dubai does. Even after every project in Dubai has been completed, it feels like there will be a lot of vacancies around the city and it will never feel like it should feel.... full of life. Every time that I look at a picture of Dubai with all of the buildings in it, for some reason it always feels as if I'm watching an empty city with no one living in it or a ghost town.

I know someone posted the x amount of projects that have been built by record numbers and that includes the large amount of skyscraper that no other city has, but does that mean it give it the life that doesn't have? I love the skyline, but I couldn't imagine living in there or making a trip out there yet until I feel that there are people living in it.

Secondly, Dubai at ground level looks like a big sandstorm mess with all of the construction taking place. But that will change very soon when all of this projects are finally done, so I feel this will put Dubai in my book to a 9.5

Some people criticized the architecture of the city and the arguments are very absurd to read, but I think is just jealousy a lot of times, because it is expected only cities in Asia , Europe or America to have something like this... except everyone.

In a couple of years Dubai in my book will be a gem to the world to watch... but I hope they can fill of those beautiful skyscrapers and the city gains more life.

Ersatz. Kitsch. Vulgar. Wannabe.

"Look at meism" at its most obvious.

This outsized village is appalling.

7/10........... tall but useless for now
===========================

ive been into middle east for so many years, and i worked in UAE for more than five years. emirates are just wasting their money for building up structures for nothing.
when i was there, there are almost a hundred of building rising up, but nobody will occupy . for instance , our company office there was in the 23rd flr of around 35 floors of commercial building,. we are about only 12 occupants there, the rest are vacant.

DOHA qatar, now, is doing the same with Dubai UAE.

look. ... they are erecting too many buildings but who are going to occupy on those buildings. when i was there , as an engineer, i was aware but of course on what is happening around our project. even on our own project, which was a 27 floor residential building. i was so amazed but shocked, we were almost finished the building but there still no marketing going on about the building occupants, see!

sorry for my english

Dubai is over the top though. Too massive and the buildings are tacky.
