Didn't Norwegian and Finnair enter some sort of agreement to have Norwegian feed Finnair's Asian traffic?

Jupp, they did. Norwegian also bought FlyNordic from Finnair, included in the deal was 5% of the Norwegian shares to Finnair. So Finnair now owns 5% of Norwegian.

Now they are talking on building further on the agreement

SAS will have 5 direct flights (test-route)this summer between Tokyo and Bergen, with landing in Copenhagen on the return. This is a project for japanese tourists who wants to see the norwegian fjords and Copenhagen. SAS spokesman Thomas Midteide says this could be the start of something bigger The flights are more or less sold out already!

A couple of Finnair news:

Finnair and Cathay Pacific start cooperation on routes between Finland and Australia
On March 1, 2008, Finnair and its oneworld alliance partner Cathay Pacific start code-sharing on flights between Hong Kong and the three Australian cities Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, and also to Bangkok in Thailand. The code-chare flights are operated with both Finnair and Cathay Pacific flight numbers. At the moment Finnair flies to Hong Kong four times a week. As of April 26, Finnair will operate daily to Hong Kong with Airbus 340 aircraft throughout the summer season.

Finnair plans flights to Yekaterinburg - More flights to Moscow and St. Petersburg
Finnair is planning to begin scheduled flights next autumn from Helsinki to Yekaterinburg, located in the Urals. In air transport agreement negotiations between Russia and Finland it was also agreed that the number of Finnair and Aeroflot joint flights to and from Moscow will rise in April to four per day, and that the number of St. Petersburg flights operated by Finnair in cooperation with the airline Rossiya will rise to 22 per week.

Finnair plans to fly to Yekaterinburg three times per week. The city is the main centre of the Urals Federal District with good connections to all parts of the vast region of Siberia.

......

The number of Moscow flights on the other hand will double when Finnair and Aeroflot, from next April, cooperate in flying four times a day between Helsinki and Moscow, i.e. 28 times per week.

.......

Finnair also flies in Russia to St. Petersburg. A total of 20 flights per week are made in cooperation with the Russian airline Rossiya. In the negotiations it was agreed to increase the number of flights from next summer to 22 per week. In 2009 the companies intend to fly between Helsinki and St. Petersburg four times per day, i.e. 28 times per week, similar to the arrangement between Helsinki and Moscow.

Article today saying that Gardermoen is the worst airport in the nordics for long haul flihts. Strangly enough we have just as good or a better offer to European destinations than Stockholm/Copenhagen, but for some reason swedes and danes fly more intercontinental than the norwegians..
This is of course BS. Luckely it seems that a new airline Krabi Airline will start direct flights from Oslo to Bangkok and Krabi in June. Dubai, Bejing and Chicago could be next from Oslo.

For those of you who understand norwegian, there are also many coments from the readers who arent exactly positive to SAS..

Interesting article. I just love comparisons

Totally out of topic but I actually could read Norwegian and understand the article even though I don't really understand any spoken Norwegian. I have read Swedish in school but not very good at it.

Just before the international architect competition for the new terminal at Gardermoen, its now clear it will be 25-30.000 m2, the new pir included. The construction will most probably start next year. I`m looking forward for some spectaculare proposals

Go tell them immediately!

Yeah it is a bit weird that Gardermoen only have two intercontiental routes when Arlanda have plenty. In Arlandas case we've had to rely not on SAS but on other international airlines in order to get long haul routes. Gardermoen is either not a very attractive market or dont try hard enough? :duno:
