17.892.161 year-to-date. Seems we'll breach 20 mio with a good margin, perhaps ending over 20,5 mio!!!

October was also a new record for domestic traffic ever

Oh, that's not impressive. OSL is closing in at us, those damned Norwegians...

Blame it on the Domestic flights, Billund Aarhus and Aalborgs numbers are decreasing and they can blame the domestic flights for that because if you look at the international flights only then Aalborgs numbers are increased by 49%.

Does that mean that CPH now meets more competition from other airports in Denmark? In Norway the international traffic is shared between 7-8 airports, while in Denmarks is seems that much more is consentrated to CPH. If you live in Bergen it is often better to use London as a transit hub, than OSL.

I know. I thought the domestic flights in Kastrup is decreasing because the international flights are increasing in Billund, meaning they are not using CPH as a transit as much as they did.

It could change if easyJet decides to establish a base in CPH.
Quote:
Budget airline easyJet is considering establishing a base in Copenhagen from which to expand its operations, Politiken newspaper reports.

The news comes less than a week after the airline added three weekly flights to Lisbon, easyJet's ninth destination from Kastrup Airport's low cost terminal, CPH GO.

The trade and investment minister, Pia Olsen Dyhr, announced that the airline was interested in Copenhagen after meeting with easyJet representatives last week in London.

“EasyJet is seriously considering Denmark as a site for establishing a larger base for their planes and creating jobs,” Dyhr said.

The message was echoed by easyJet’s regional general manager of northern Europe, Thomas Haagensen.

“Copenhagen is clearly in a group of airports that we are focussing on because of the potential for growth and expansion,” Haagensen told Politiken. “When you look at demand, Copenhagen fits well within our strategy.”

Copenhagen is one of easyJet’s more successful destinations, achieving an annual growth in passenger numbers of almost 20 percent, as opposed to an average of 12 percent.

But while Lisbon was announced this Saturday as the airline’s 23rd European base, there is no guarantee that Copenhagen will be the next.

“There are some provisions that need to be met and there are other airports that are being considered. But Copenhagen is definitely on easyJet’s radar,” Haagensen told Politiken.

One of the conditions would be allowing easyJet to park some of its airplanes at Kastrup overnight, which Politiken estimated would create about 100 jobs.

According to Dyhr, the government is keen to accommodate easyJet’s demands in order to secure the investment.

Because we have a dedicated thread in the Danish section for route news out of CPH/MMX, here's an update of the intercontinental route network out of Öresund:

With Air China's new route between CPH and Beijing announced yesterday, there are now 38 intercontinental routes from CPH/MMX, with 25 different carriers serving 32 different destinations outside of Europe. The Air China CPH-PEK route boosts the weekly non-stop flights between CPH and China to 17, and almost 4000 weekly seats.

This is the Öresund international route network as of spring 2012:

NOTE: Two of the destinations (Agadir and Marrakech) in the map above are served by the low-cost carrier Norwegian Airshuttle.

Those Norwegian guys must be doing something right. Sounds great with six new routes from CPH, and only two of them are seasonal...

Ryanair will open its 48th base, located at Billund Airport in Denmark, in March 2012, it was announced today.

Two aircraft will be based at the facility, with 19 routes delivering an estimated 800,000 passengers per year.

In addition to Ryanair's existing 14 Billund routes, the airline will open five new routes from Billund to Carcassonne, Corfu, Krakow, Venice and Zada, bringing to 19 the number of routes offered from Billund by Ryanair in summer 2012.

"Ryanair is delighted to announce Billund as our 48th base with a total of 19 routes on sale on www.ryanair.com from tomorrow for summer 2012," said Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary.

"Ryanair’s traffic of 800,000 p.a. will sustain up to 800 jobs at Billund Airport and in the surrounding region."
