Not a picture but a video of wellington highway/motorway. Starting at ngauranga gorge which isn't classified motorway because it has a footpath (I dunno whos nuts enough to use it) and a left in left out road. It is a section of non motorway between two motorways but unless you're really looking carefully you wouldn't realise why its not classified motorway.

Then onto the wellington urban motorway, where state highways 1 and 2 merge.

by the way: NOT MY VIDEO

I read some more about this "motorway", and i can say you; it wasn't a motorway. It was a 2+2 road, with no acces controlled intersections, just grade crossings, and there was no barrier between the lanes.

Small details... Where did you read it? I wasn't looking around much, but I remembered this site. And here it says by the A08 that it was the first toll motorway in the world (actually all 42.6 km were allegedly opened at once).

New Zealand motorways look very much like American ones. If it was not for the left-sided traffic and tall residential flats along the road, I could easily confuse it with some California coastal highway. Oh, and the road marking is closer to European than American.

NZ motorways are a question of getting used to. If you don't pay attention, you're off the motorway sooner than you want. There are not only ordinary exits with dedicated lanes, it also happens that the main lanes simply lead you to an exit. happened to me and my family twice between AKL and the CBD...

Great video! Thanks for posting it.

Interesting how the intersection at the end of the motorway off-ramp is not signalised, yet it's almost in the centre of Wellington!

someone needs to tell some people in Toronto that you need atleast one highway leading to or near your downtown. They want to tear it down. The world's biggest cities all have one!!

Manchester has the most comprehensive network of anywhere in the UK, with no fewer than 11 Motorways in Greater Manchester.

M60 - The Manchester Outer Ring Road: (The only motorway in the UK that is a complete circle, part of London's M25 is actually an 'A' road)

M61: From North West Manchester - Preston (Starts at J15 of the M60, eventually joining with the M6 north west of Manchester)

18 LANES!!!

M62 West: From West Manchester - Liverpool (Starts at J12 of the M60)
M62 East: From North Manchester - Hull (Starts at J18 of the M60)

M66: From North Manchester - Bury (Starts at J18 of the M60)

M67: East Manchester (Starts at J24 of the M60)

M56: South Manchester - North Wales (Starts J3 of the M60, also meets with the M6 south west of Manchester)

M602: From West Manchester - Salford/Central Manchester (Starts J12 of the M60, as a continuation of the M62 West)

M6: West of Manchester (Meets the M62 West at J10 and the M61 at Preston)

A57(M) - The Mancunian way: City Centre (forms the southern section of the Manchester Inner Ring Road around the City Centre)

A627(M): North East Manchester (Rochdale to Oldham relief road, meets with J20 of the M62 East)

PHEW!

Here is a map.

You can see the tunnel in the south part of M-30, between A3 and A5.

I don't know if it's the longest but it's impressive.

Not as long in a row, I think

Hi everybody:
I'm a new member, so first of all I'd like to salute all the forumers and introduce myself... I'm Spanish, live in Madrid's metro area, fond of the "Forum"...

Accordingly to Stlifer's map, you can see the longest section is 5.9 kms. I've taken the tunnels about a dozen times (from SE to NW), and they are great, but not as long as the original post is mean to be (in a row I mean), at least in north direction, the Vicente Calderón St. area is surface motorway section (between two tunnel sections).

Correct me if I'm wrong!!

Regards

Then it's a series of tunnels (the longest 4.2 km, right?)

Impressive anyway

At least from SE to NW (from A3 to A6) that's absolute right, I'm not sure from N to S, sorry. May be, in the future, the Vicente Calderón St. will be demolished, and the south section could be connected to the north one building a new section of 500 m approx.
