Until they start foundation work (namely caissons), it's not techincally "under construction."

Actually, this is what I'd consider foundation work. Indeed, Shelbourne declared in their recent press release that site preparation had been completed. So, either the need for grouting the tunnels was a surprise to them (don't see how that could be possible), or they might draw a distinction between site prep and foundation work as well.

For the record, I do understand that some consider caisson drilling the beginning of construction. but then, they appear to be doing some of that as well.

I think Bvic put this rather nicely at SSP:

I'll try to swing by for some pictures too... eventually. It's amazing how long it takes to get to Lakeshore East from the Board of Trade.

I agree with you. I thought the original was the best, with an acual spire on top.

I agree here too. I'm sure this will grow on me more and more as it starts to rise.

One question I have is the issue of traffic around the Spire. The Spire is surrounded by water on three sides! It will only be accessible by a tiny side street from the west. It seems to me it will be a nightmare trying to drive to it.

^ My guess is that most of the people who can afford to live there (and probably only part time) will not all be leaving for "work" at the same time and coming home all at once.

That is a valid argument, but I would ask: Considering this to be a very hight profile tower, would there be a yachts quaey on the waterside? Is there enough place for one?

I doubt that considering the need for a solid and deep basement and the proximity to water, which will means a very extensive dewatering and waterproffing of the site.

It is not surrounded by water on three sides, only two. DuSable Park will be to the east of it. They are going to build ramps off of LSD for access to the park and spire.

well the diagram is a little confusing. I think they are building new ramps on LSD but it still isnt clear how traffic will be accessible from the east. I wouldn't want traffic jams in the park anyway.
