Going to Chicago next week. My sister and mother are going to a play....not me,I'm Sears Tower destined. Can you see what little there is of the site from the Sears Tower observation deck?? Can't wait to see the CS grow. Another question for a Chicago resident,I'm walking from the Ford Theater on Randolf to the Sears in the evening,is it a pretty safe part of town at that time?? I come from a small town lol

Downtown Chicago is pretty safe 24/7. In fact, the area acquires a very 'magical' quality after dark and the view from the Sears Skydeck is to match.

As for the view of the CS from the Skydeck?

The image in this posting from the Trump Tower thread in this subforvm is the in that direction:

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...postcount=1084

The CS site cannot be directly seen. However, it is to the left of the AON building, behind the 2 Prudential tower and in front of the smaller black building behind it to its left (Lake Point Tower). When complete, it will be about 1.5 or so times the height of the AON.

You CAN see the Trump Tower peeking above its surrounding buildings now, though.

Enjoy!

Mike

So, if they hadn't the restriction, the Spire would have been planned higher than 610m??

After lurking for awhile, this is my first post on the forum - mostly for news on the Spire. I know this project is going to go forward, and Chicago will rise to a new status. At first, I hated the designs of the Spire, but it kind of grew on me. I can't wait until this project really gets going, but probably people will be questioning "the financing" until the last piece of steel is laid.

2000 feet and 610 meters are the same.

Why is there a hight limit? Is it because of terror or something else?

FAA.

Not a rigid limit, but alot more complications on approval past 2000 ft; so 2000 feet is pretty much a 'de facto' height limit.

Well 2000ft is incredibly high anyway so dont think it wont be big. This thing will probably be finished before the freedom tower reaches street level.

now imagine living in one of those town houses there....

first of all it sucks to have such a huge construction site next to you, and the next thing is, that its questionable, if its that attractive to have a building with that size next to your small litte town house....
acutally, they look more like row-houses....
