Learn how to read, please. Where did I pose that question? I know it's an optical illusion caused by the twisting design. I don't think it's very attractive...which is only my opinion, of course.

Sandman we were seeing the same thng in the 80's when the Japanese were buying everything then we turned around and bought back everything from them for a fraction of what this paid i.e. Rock Center, Pebble Beach. This too shall pass.

Well, if the supply and demand theory for money is correct this will remedy itself.

Also, I can see how in some renderings the Spire does appear to tilt. It's because some renderings are made from quite unusual view points - I guess it's to make them more impressive- In fact, I remember seeing quite a few renderings for various buildings that looked somewhat odd because of the angle they were taken from. In that way, these funny little optical illusions are quite interesting.

Almost all the buildings in China are done by foreign firms (namely SOM), why the hell would we care where the architect hails from? The building is going here!

What a beautiful tower

Hi everybody!
it's my first visit on this forum. I was searching some pictures about Santiago Calatrava's architecture, and then I see this forum about Chicago Spire.
A beautiful tower you will have.
I'm french, but my father is spanish, from Valencia, birth city of Calatrava!
There in Valencia, we have some good exemples of Calatrava architecture:
- Exposition's Bridge
- 9 Octubre Bridge
-City of ARt and Sciences (www.cac.es)
And next a new bridge: the Serreria bridge.
And something fabulous, it will be exactly the same of the bridge in front of Spire tower.
here some pictures of that bridge in Valencia, and of the three towers, one day we will have...but...it's not very sure.
Oh, I will be forget... Be careful with Calatrav's architecture... It's fabulous, beautiful, pharaonic...but sometimes the "finition" aren't correct.

sorry I don't know how to insert a picture... If you want to see the bridge in Valencia go in the forum "http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=163487&page=22"

Welcome aboard!

Also see the recent Calatrava-designed addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum, located on the Lake Michigan lakefront in Milwaukee, WI (about 140 km north of downtown Chicago). It is his first work in the USA.

You're fell behind of this news. Chicago Spire has been under construction for about a month now.

¡No, no!
The architecture of Calatrava is more organic than mechanical.
I think that it is looked more like this:

Is only a joke, i admire the building and the architect.
