Will this tower be lower in topographical/elevation terms then the other supertalls?

Or do I just see that because LSD is lifted?

Good question - any Emporis types here ? Waterview, Trump, and 300 N LaSalle all appear to be 2 stories shorter than they "really" are because of the double and triple decked roads around them, The spire is always shown from ground level.

On the other hand the Quaker bldg ( where I am now) lists it's floors as if the 2 levels below the top of Clark are basements. ( so we have LL1-LL4, but only LL3 and LL4 are actually below ground level.

All the ground for the above mentioned bldgs is at the same elevation, this is Chicago, which is profoundly flat.

Looks like there's an amusement park nearby with that Ferris Wheel in the background.

This is going to be a werid comment - but I actually think there is something nice about having buildings around you, rather than looking down at all of them. That view seems to me to be kind of....lonely?

I wonder when the excavation will start? A part of me doubts that it will start in winter. The ground will be frozen solid and Chicago's winters well ... they really suck, but it sems like there still lots of work that needs to be started and finished before they can even start digging.

chicago spire was covered at the annual savills briefing in london yesterday. a good piss up was had by all. seems savills are going to be the negotiator on this project but people already know that. also i have some uber large images of the spire, they are about 5000 pixels wide though...

It's on 7 double-lots (twice as deep) and will cost more than $40m. So take your pick: 20,000 sq ft house on half an acre, or 10,000 sq ft house in the sky. Same price.

A rather long story from last year, detailing the Lincoln Park building craze: http://www.chicagotribune.com/entert...l=chi-news-hed
its disgusting what the priztkers did to that neigborhood,
that house takes up a whole block right?
i dont think anyone would be able to afford such
a monstrosity in manhattan,
the only good news is that maybe in the future it frees up an area
for a couple highrises, cuz these richies will see that
they will in the years to come be able to sell that land for much
more than that ugly ass house is worth.

lincoln park is getting messed up, too bad.

I agree with you. The top of the Hancock has great views, but you definitely seem "above" everything, as opposed to a 40th floor apartment in Streeterville, which makes you feel more "in" the city. But, somehow...eventually...I'd find a way to appreciate living on the 140th floor.

It's hard to believe it's under construction. Honestly I think the building looks ugly in the renders but I have a good feeling that the real building will turn out looking fantastic.
