Roughly speaking, how much larger (diameter) will the eventual building be, as compared to the core?

Dont get me wrong I like the building. But isnt there a better location? I mean is surrounded by water to the south, a building to west and a freeway to the east.Yeah have a building next to the water is great and all but for a 2000ft building this certain location seem cramped. Plus there is the "extra" process of making that slurry wall. Maybe Im alone in that thought pattern.

i am just so pleased with the lobby on this masterpiece. If they truly stick to those plans it will set a bar for the rest of the world.

That's what's so great about its location. I don't think anyone doubts that, if built, CS will become an instant icon and tourist attraction. With this location, CS will be easily visible from the lake, Navy Pier, river tours, Museum Campus, and the most popular beaches. In terms of skyline balance, this pretty much creates a pinnacle with JHC on one side, Sears on the other, and CS plus a whole cluster of supertalls in the middle.

If this tower were somewhere else it would just get lost in the density of the Loop and probably would sell very few units because of limited views.

But if you can tell me of some other viable sites, I'd like to hear them.

And whats wrong with that? Being isolated yet in the middle of the city is one of the best selling features.

...From the lake, where no one lives and few people go. Call me crazy, but skyline views are best from the actual city, not just from places you only see in pictures. From the north, it's far to the left. From the south, it's far to the right. From the west, it's behind alot of buildings, including two U/C supertalls (Trump and Waterview), and two proposed supertalls (Wolf Point and Waldorf=Astoria).

It may or may not be a great location for it, but let's not pretend it's 'in the middle' of anything other than a photo op from the lake. And no one lives or drives through the lake.

I agree, given the fact that it is all residential. If it had a hotel and retail, I dont think the location would work as well, there is very little foot traffic over there and even less auto traffic. (but being connected to LSD will help that.)

As far as location in terms of impact on the skyline, I dont really think about that. I hope Chicago continues to add height and density, no matter where it is.

I wouldn't worry about this building making Chicago's skyline off balance. When you think about it, every supertall built in this city was off to itself upon completion. Trump is really the first supertall built in the center of the action.
