As many of you all know, where I work is directly across Ogden Slip from the Spire construction site. My company has decided to follow construction, and will occasionally come out with pieces of information like this.

I present, "Spire Watch, Volume 2"

You know, this thing's gonna be over 600 feet taller than the World Trade Center. That's mind-boggling.

It's amazing to think how much that plot of land will change over the next 5 years.

I just can't believe that the Sears Tower after 35 years of dominating the Chicago skyline will now be dwarft by the Spire by 550 feet! Who ever lives on the top floors will be looking down at the Sears Tower.

They still have to finish pounding in the steel sheeting flush with the ground, then they will begin to excavate within it for the core.

Quite a read - it is a lucky tourist that finds your shop.

I helped to gather a bit of information, and I took the construction shots, but I didn't write the commentary.

So far the deepest caisson is about 130' deep.

I love the movies, but the design style is corny. I like real futuristic functional design, not this retro-future fantasyland stuff.
