Those excavators are small enough to come out with a crane.

For some reason the construction of this skyscraper astonishes me more than even the Dubai tower because it is so slender and is being built in so small a space! On top of that it is so close to the water.

Will they be constructing any more reinforced concrete rings as they dig deeper? Or is the one at the top the only one they need?

Great update again harryc, thanks.

what i can't believe is that over that "small" hole they are going to build a skyscraper like Chicago Spire...

That is the footprint of the core, not the complete building.

It's not that bad, you only get cold when you stop moving. It's kinda like going to a football game in winter, in the first half you gradually get colder, then take a nice brisk walk around the stadium, then be ready for the 2nd half.

That reminds me, there are tickets to the Bills Giants game left, maybe I'll go

Are you talking about a "spire" or "spiral"? Those are two different words you know.

I'm guessing that the concrete ring around the top of the hole is a compression ring to stop the steel sheeting from going out of vertical.

Yes?

Dec 07 - AM

View from above [ full set - zoomable http://picasaweb.google.com/harry.r..../400NLSDCSHeli ]

Soil retention and removal firm

The core continues, note rebar in bottom for new "whaler" - supports sheet piling. These seem to be spaced a bit further apart than on a normal flat sided site.

River piles

Soil testing ( got to love a place where you can use a flash on a drill rig )

Idling in morning

The park - note the new cages for the slurry wall.

nice pics..very enjoyable.

looks like the sun was rather late getting up and brightening out there too.

It was close to 7:30 AM EST by the time it was somewhat light here.

As they keep digging out the central core, how will they get the soil out and into dump trucks as they get deeper and deeper?
