Why are they only digging under the core and not the whole perimeter of the tower?

Extraction of material

I wasn't suggesting that they would only excavate the core, what I was trying to say (badly) is that they will excavate the whole area inside the slurry walls as underground parking. What I was postulating was that they will construct the core in the round hole, pour the first slab across the whole site between the slurry walls, then dig sideways out (through appropriate holes left in the core sides under the first slab, excavate using the core structure as the means through which the spoil can be got out as this structure will be the first to go down to the full depth that is required. This is of course if they are building top down. Of course I might be completely wrong its all just guesswork at this stage.

What i'm wondering is when will they excavate for the 7 perimeter columns, It would seem to me that these should rise with the core as to keep the pour monolithic, or are these columns steel....???

Chicago winters are brutal...not like here in "balmy" Baltimore where construction continues pretty much all year. Will they have to pause major work for the worst winter months?

Have they secured the finance to build the entire building yet?...is this there any chance that the tower may not make it to 2000 feet?

Funny you should ask...I've been invited to attend a private sales showing of The Spire in Feb 1st. I specifically asked the Savills sales person about the financing and I was told that even though not one unit has been sold Mr. Kelleher has the financing in place to complete the building. He made this point very clear. He informed me that over 500 appointments have been made with people flying in from all over the world. He also stated that the financing question was the overwhelming theme from all prospective customers. He said people would not lump down there 25k to secure a contract if the financing wasn't in place. By the way, I was told Mr. Kelleher is personally flying in several high profiles clients from Russia and Hong Kong. Food for thought.
