There is no set number, although some numbers that have been thrown around in the newspaper are $2.4 and $2.2 billion.

Big Bucks!

Wow, 2.2-2.4 billion......that is the approximate cost of a B-2 stealth bomber or about half an aircraft carrier. You know what they say though, you get what you pay for. Which means that we are in for a beautiful building!

Word is getting around nicely. Here's a little story on the Spire from a Danish website. It has a couple of videos that most of you have probably seen already.

wow, it's so close to those condos next door! I bet they're all in a huge tizzy. That'd be pretty intense.

I am saddened that this project is going ahead. To me it looks like a giant Drilldo.

That's what some critics said about the Gherkin before it was built in London. Now it's just known for being a nice building.

Well I'm just not 'some critic'. And Sy my man, yes you are 100% correct. 30 St Mary Axe is a nice building. And The Chicago Spire was a nice building too. If a building is going to be lost among the skyline, then nice is good enough. But if a building is going to be the tallest in a city - heck, tallest in an entire nation! - then 'nice' just does not cut it. In automotive terms, I'd compare this skyscraper to a Camry or Accord. Nice, but nothing to write home about. C'mon whoever is building this building, next time you build a building, build an Escalade or a 300C, and not a Camry!

Does anybody have an idea what labor costs are for Burj? Somebody want to do an "adjusted for location" cost comparison?

Current labor cost for Burj Dubai (including the Mall & the Old Town Residences) is currently at 1,510,000,000 AED, which is about $412,000,000 USD

The CS doesn't come anywhere close!

The digging around the perimeter of the site is for the construction of a barrier wall to keep water out and to stabilize the soil. Eventually most of the area inside these walls will be excavated for the underground parking garage. The round core that is now being excavated is just for the center core of the building.

That's the difference between Union workers' and migrant workers' salaries... plus all the safety measures required in Chicago... has anyone died constructing the Burj?
