Jan 09 - Slurry and Secant

Still working on primaries

One very long tube - this prevents the cement mixing with the slurry too much, the cement displaces the slurry from the bottom up, instead of pouring through it.

Guiding it in ( note the flaps that would allow them to pull it up 2 sections, lock the bottom one in, and remove the top section ).

almost there

Ready to go

Work continues on the next section

Ready for more

That excavator looks like it can't reach down much farther. How will they dig the rest out since they have 3 more rings to go?

What's left? The section seen here and the diaphragm wall coming from the right bordering the little townhouses?

Then the exterior wall should be finished...

Nov 27 - assembling rebar cages

Awaiting use

Nov 29 - forms up

Note studs protruding from wall, these help hold up the ring.

Next add concrete.

It's just awesome to see a building like this built from the beginning, and I can't thank harryc enough for all the photos he's posting and for the explanations of the construction process. I'm learning a lot!

Harry, Retro, there are seven trucks lined up here. How long is it taking to fill those things up? I guess the drivers are nice and warm, sipping coffee and listening to their favorite tunes :-)

This excavation hole is getting deep now, but it appears surprisingly narrow to me, only about half of the diameter of Chicago Spire, I guess. So is it only for the central core, and will there be seperate holes drilled later on for the columns around?

For the 2nd or 3rd time on this page, and about the 100th time on this thread, yes, it is just the core.

Edit: previous page now. :P
