Harryc, did you see how they got that crane in the hole? The other cranes on site just don't seem heavy duty enough to lower it down in there... although I'm sure thats probably what happened.

On page 192 you can see pictures of how it was done, they lowered the crane down in parts with the existing cranes.

VERY foggy day here in Chicago...

It made me wonder though if the highest floors of the spire might have had a 'sunny' day. It also made me think about what it would be like to watch a lightning storm from up there. Would it be possible to be INSIDE a storm cloud? I know clouds are typically higher but some storm clouds can be rather low as well.

Any meteorologists on this website?

General Contractor

Hello everyone I am new to this forum. I am a union carpenter and was wondering if anyone knows who the general contractor or carpenter contractor is on this project. It would really be pretty cool to get involved on this building.

Thanks,
Brad

Bah! Thanks, I thought I watched this thread often enough to not miss things like that. I guess I was wrong!

General Contractor

The General Contractor is the Shelburne Development Group. Look at their website for more details.

Good luck getting a job with them.

Possible Web Cam for Spire Construction

Hey Guys, I e-mailed the Spire's General Contractor about a web cam for the construction. Attached is their reply:

Mr. Chase,

Thank you for your email. We are currently looking into setting up a steady cam to record the construction progress which would be available for viewing on our website www.thechicagospire.com. Until then, we rely on enthusiasts who post their pictures; I recommend the two sites below.

Kind regards,
Maureen

So take it for what it is worth. Maybe we will be able to watch it live.
Take care
Lance

Nice to see that the builders are paying close enough attention to notice that Harry's pictures are the best out there.

My guess would be the sales center, which has a really good view of the site. They may be waiting for the building to start rising since the progress will be more visible then.
