Ireland. Lake Michigan Chicago Spire global sales begin in Dublin

Tuesday, 05 February 2008
The Chicago Spire global sales campaign is currently underway, following a tremendously successful launch in Dublin when more than 1,000 people visited a four-day exhibition. Due to this unprecedented level of interest, the exhibition has been extended for two weeks as sales will continue in Dublin through February 9. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, The Chicago Spire is an iconic residential building located on the shores of Lake Michigan.

“The initial response from the global community has been overwhelming,” said Dominic Grace, Head of Savills Residential Development and leader of the global sales campaign. “Our sales team has been busy writing contracts every day. There is simply nothing like The Chicago Spire anywhere else in the world, and the privilege to live in a residence of its significance is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The global marketing drive began with a glamorous celebration in Dublin’s Fitzwilliam Square attended by an invited audience of more than 500 people, including Hollywood stars Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson. After its Dublin stop, the exhibition tour will visit Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Shanghai before continuing on to a series of other destinations in Asia, Europe and South Africa.

When complete in 2011, The Chicago Spire will be home to 1,194 individual residences and a range of amenities that will rival any in the world, including temperature-controlled wine lockers and humidors, therapeutic spa, world-class fitness facilities, business center and library, among many others.

Construction of The Chicago Spire began in June 2007. Completion and occupancy are expected Q4 2011. At 2,000 feet, The Chicago Spire will be the world's tallest residential building.

Can't wait to see this rising. The top reminds me of Swiss Re now. I like this much more than when it was first proposed, the design has improved greatly. IMO.

From above

2007 Series
2008 Series

Leaning a bit further out the window

Air hose ? the 2 cables for the basket trap are clearly visable, there are also 2 big cables to the drill shaft - would it need to be telescopic for this short of a hole ?

Shorter caisson tops (?)

Progressing on secant wall - looks like 4 primaries left here.

none here (?)

Ready to go - bits for every need.

Road over latest slurry wall, old road next ?

Feb 06 - Caisson bits

I think the big auger bits are used for removing the hardpan after it has been broken up by the big circular bits ( like keyhole saws ). After the hole has been excavated down to the rock the grinder will be used to make a socket in the limestone. - if anyone knows better please correct me.

This is going to be incredible to watch once the building starts to rise above the ground slab. And to think, the highest res floor will be at 586 meters; nice!

I have a feeling that this is going to turn out even better than the render shows.

About 250mm of snow in Chicago, nearly a full half-meter with major roads closed and motorists stranded in southern Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

(Just a dusting here in Appleton )

i really hope it doesnt have a blinking red light at the tip top like in some of the photos. i dont know how any plane could miss it. plus if its clouds there worried about, it's so darn tall, it will probably surpass those. A nice beam of white light would be perfection.

You can't really be serious? Maybe a nice cute bow on the cs... could help a 747 in the fog.

That hole for the core caissons is one of the scariest things I've seen. Like a portal to the bowels of Hell.

/waiting for pictures of Satan climbing out to wreak havoc on Chicagoland.

harryc,
The augers drill through everything on their own until they get to bedrock. The "keyhole saw" bits and grinders work as you described, once bedrock is reached.

I could be wrong, but I think FAA requirements will lead to a series of white strobes on the sides of the top portion of the building.
