What's so funny about it? How else would you propose drilling the 12' cores down to bedrock?

Feb 15 - AM

From above

2007 series
2008 series

Drill rig in the hole

At least one more top gone ( some may arrive and be used between my visits ).

Looks like the longer ones do have teeth ( could these be the sleeves, and the heavily toothed ones the tops ? )

Ramps complete

Nice touch, the temporary ramp for the bike path ( which outlasted my expectations ), now covered in non skid stuff.

(more tonight)

Yeah, seriously. I'd like to see how deep it is. It's starting to resemble the "THIS IS SPARTA!!" black pit of death from 300.

Drop a rock in it and see how long it takes you to hear something.

Feb 15 - AM Secant & Slurry

Secant
Taking a big bite out of the neighbor (to the left )

This corner is done

Slurry
Waiting at the E wall In the morning sun

Links to raise and lower the scoop.

The top

By the gate

The pipes - used to get the concrete through the slurry, initially almost to the bottom they are raised, locked in the doors, and a section removed as the level on concrete in the bottom of the trench rises.

Hatches to lock the pipe segments in while pouring the cement.

Partition at the end, the slurry wall is done in sections.

http://www.fxguide.com/article466.html

This is an article about the creation of the video, called "Inspire", that appears to be the full version of the one seen at thechicagospire.com. There are some nice screenshots and a link to download the video (THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST, IT IS AMAZING!!!). Some interesting details from the article:

"The VFX shot required that we fly out 3 miles over the lake at night."

There is a traveling road show for the building, which can be seen in the following cities around the world:

Singapore - March
New York - March
Kuala Lumpur - March
Hong Kong - April

The road show will also visit Shanghai and cities in India, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and South Africa -- dates to be announced.
