By far the most beautiful supertall U/C right now in the world, blows the WTC project out of the water. Calatrava should be proud, and so should all Chicago residents.

Feb 27 - Active core

Ready and waiting in the morning

Lunchtime
Pile of ground bedrock in the foreground, too many cement trucks to count. Seemed like most were for the core.

Lake Point Tower

In that one pic,it looks like it's about the witness the rise of the spire, making it's own height look pale in comparison. Has a great design though..

1 year of work on the site vid

Hiya guys,

I had requests for it so here it comes:

This Video shows a Year of Progress focused on the Chicago Spire site itself. No Ramps, tools or slurry walls. It starts from about Feb 07 till 2/27 2008. Enjoy!

Feb 27 - Secant

Waiting in the morning

Just sitting here

A great day for watching the secant work.
Unbolting a section

The bolts

filling it up

I thought this was an odd way to center

Then out popped the pointy end.

The cutting end ( for the neighboring concrete caissons )

The Dentist

maybe a dumb question...But the giant"O" is the core? So it will be the begining of the concrete main support, and rise to the top of the building? Can someone also tell me what the total volume of concrete just to fill that up? That is, if that is, the purpose of the dig underground.
