...looks like winter is losing its grip in Chitown. The river has thawed out and the snow is gone. They had better look out for falling icicles in the hole, though!!

Perhaps if they had made the rings tilted instead of horizontal, they could've build the spire on a separate place... and when finished, fly it up-to-here attached on steel cables to many helicopters... and then screw it into the rings like a bolt. And the big surprise would've been, when they screw it in, it light-up like a light bulb!

That would require at least 322,845 helicopters and they would collide then the Spire would plunge upside down and stab the Sears Tower, we can't have that so let's just build it as it is going???

March 05 - Lunch

From above

higer res
2007 series
2008 series

In full swing

Secant rig goes away

How they get the dirt out ( during this time I could see the crane in the pit raise the shaft (&bit), rotate 40deg, and spin (the dirt off the augar)).

Attaching the second hook ( from the same crane )

Lifting and tipping

Unhooking the second cable

From above

Moving stuff around for no apparent reason

Secant wall cages remaining.

Long thin rebar cage ( I would expect these to go in before the top-down starts )

It was pointed out that there were only six rings instead of the planned seven. I guess seeing this dirt coming out of the hole means that the digging has resumed.

That dirt was from the drilling of the last caissons, I could see the crane drilling, lifting, moving over, and spinning off the dirt.

Ah I see. Any idea why only six rings have been made thus far?
