March 18 - lunch

Not so old footing - for a lightpole ? The spiral pattern from the disposable cardboard form is still visible.

Still a bit of Slurry and Secant work to be done.

Measure twice - then call the truck (?)

Multi use caisson sleeves in a light rain.

The gravel is used to fill in the top of the hole, where the rebar is sticking up above the concrete, allowing the equipment to drive over it without damaging it (once the caisson top is pulled off).

More being delivered.

Building the wall ( temporary construction barrier )

A handy table - I think they were reading the instructions for the blue thing.

Diesel mechanic ?

the scary part of that to me:

do investors in Sinagpore and elsewhere abroad think America is about to have a fire sale?

Personally I'd feel a lot more comfortable if the fate of the Chicago economy was based more on Chicago and less on the United States.

I know this is not a political forum, but there is a relevance here to questioning of how the huge numbers of units in this building are going to be sold in America's turbulant economic waters that we have just entered and where the waves are going to get much bigger. That is, unless we expect the vast majority of these condos to be sold to people overseas.

It's not like our economy is heading in the same direction as this soon-to-be-rising tower is goiong.
They definitely are not expecting Chicagoans to be the primary players. The project is a status purchase- something more likely to appeal to overseas investors who can afford it. With this many units and with numerous other luxury buildings competing we can hardly expect to have these sold to anyone but overseas (or at least out of state) investors.

Probably typical union scale for their crafts. Construction tradesmen do pretty well.

^ Wow, we've got a new "In the Loop" forumer. The name's been freed up since the original "In the Loop" moved to NYC and changed his name to 24gotham or something like that.

Welcome to the forums.

March 18 - using the can

From earlier - the can, by twisting the top the bottom can be opened and closed

Pulling it out

Dripping wet

Putting in the scoop - this holds the body while the top is turned to open up the bottom.

Pulling it up - and shaking to get the stuff out.

Back down for more

Do you mean an overview of the site? If so, Harry posted one here, taken on March 17. It's unlikely anything has changed dramatically in just three days!

seems looking through history,Chicago is hommace to worlds talelst apartment towers. Im doing a diagram atm -worlds tallest apartment towers through time and seems like it al started back in 1928 with drake tower. 29st/106m, then went to NYC,Moscow, back to chicago with marina City, 10o0 lake shore, the mighty Lake point towers and then off to NYC,Dubai over to Australia with Q1 and now back to Dubai but soon chicago will wrestle back its crown with 610m/2000ft SPIRE!
great

...looks like the site is getting busier and more congested as the weather warms up!! Still wondering how they are going to stage all the equipment and materials as things pick up, even with the space they have on the other side of the highway.

They are also going to have a floating storage space. That will ensure all the space needed.

March 21 - AM

From above

higer res
2007 series
2008 series

Another caisson sleeve. Doesnt have the re-inforces ring on the top and will be left in the ground.

Building the wall along the river ( will the tour boats be able to see over this ? )

The things get more perplexing - they were hitting rock in this hole yesterday.

A total of 8 beams now ( that I see, some may be hidden under LSD )
