For those having panic attacks over the facade; all better now:

The facade will be stainless steel in a satin finish.

The panels above and below the diagonal windows, I'm not clear about yet, but I will see what I can find out.

In my opinion a Tower like the Spire has to be the Centre of a Cluster of Highrises about 300 m.
Unfortunately the surroundings of the Spire are only Lowrises a just few storys high.
If they gonna change the urban structure additional it would be a great and interesting project.

Yet it's just a single standing Tower, which doesen't fit into its neighbourhood.
Okay.
But people complain about Sears being blocked by TALL buildings.

why dont people use wikipedia, its so fast, you could just simply see who designed the building. Or maybe someone just edited the page, making it seem like Calatrava has been designing this all along?

Rizzato,

I've already seen the Wikipedia page from the Chicago Spire.
I was just wondering wether Calatrava is the head of this project or not.

Okay, if you design a Skyscraper you have to find a balance to satisfie as much people as you can.
Surely the people even would complain, if the Sears Tower was a single standing Building
Nobody ever have said that this is an easy thing.

To satisfie me it just has to fit in its urban context.

Keep in mind when the Sears Tower was built it was just about by itself. A few years later more taller buildings starting popping up all around it. Maybe in a few years after the Chicago Spire is built we'll be seeing more taller building going up around it. The Chicago Spire isn't even built yet and there is a possible 1,2000 foot tower that is proposed about one block from the spire. It's called the Waldorf-Astoria. So it may stick out for the next few or even several years but I don't think us Chicagoans really care.

You mean 'unfortunately the IMMEDIATE surroundings'.....

We have Lake Point Tower, North Pier Apartments?, and yes a few low rises. You sound like you wish the Chicago Spire be surrounded with 311 South Wacker Drive style towers.

As for me, I love the position near the Ogden Slip. The Spire goes well sith the skyline, with Spire, Trump and hopefully Waterview, the skyline gets better and better!!

Part of this building's appeal is that you have nearly unobstructed views because of the lake, river, and lowrise townhomes and shorter condo buildings. You lose that if you put it in the middle of the loop.

I don't even know how this 311 South Wacker Drive Tower looks.
So I don't know what you mean.

311 South Wacker:
From Wikipedia

This tower is close to 300m, I think 292m.

This is updated progresses of the skyscrapers. Looking at chicago spire, the hole seems dug to the maximum depth.

That one tower next to the Trump looks oddly familiar...

Hey choyak,

this building is not as bad as I've expected. In that case case I have to say surely why shouldn't they place a Tower like the Spire nearby a Buillding like this.
Or the other way. Place a an Obeject like the Spire nearby one like South Wacker
Don't you think so?

Chicago Night,
my friend,
lets get serious,
I've been watching this round hole for a long time now,
We are in a Bad Recession now,
Gas prices are going to be 4.00 and Up a gallon in one month, June 1st,
as the Barrel of crude oil will as projected by OPEC to hit $ 200.00 a barrel by years end,
and your thinking this tower will go up 2,000 feet.
This I have to see this with my own eyes.
we have towers here in Miami that have foundations put in, and No vertical progress due to Condos not selling anymore
It's that bad, many condo towers have cancelled , as many as 12 towers are thrown out, and they were all approved to be built tall and over 600 feet.
I'll have to keep watching this UPDATE picture every week to see this really happen.

my friends,
I had to re-edited this to say
" don't get me wrong now ",
i love this tower, it's beautiful,
and I want to see it built,
just don't be suprised if there's a stop on the development, just a long delay..

there have been so signs of trouble with financing so far with this tower and is proceeding on schedule. This tower is being heavily marketed worldwide, and all signs are pointing to successful sales thus far. The dollar is at an all time low, so foreigners are getting up to 2 to 1 on their money.

And we are not technically in a recession so far, let alone a bad one. Also oil is poised to drop now that the fed has signaled they will stop cutting rates. link I dont know where you pulled that OPEC quote from but I havent read that, and I follow the markets for a living.

It has been projected this tower will be up to around floor 5 in a year.
