7th ring ??? you sure? I thought its only going deep as 6 concrete rings. Ok then fair enough, they're constantly excavating anyway.

BTW I never knew chicago spire is anywhere near Aqua, its architectural brilliance.

Seriously, if you are complaining about the speed, please shut the hell up.
They have to build the entire foundation for a 2000ft tall skyscraper.

How long do you expect it to take?

Hi guys -- I am 1 of the "lucky" owners of a Marina Bay view Tower 1 apartment in Singapore's The [email protected] Bay. I have been following the Chicago Spire forum on & off. The C-Spire was advertised in the Singapore newspapers by the builders just recently & I was hoping one of you experts could direct me to a website with "accurate" information on apartments available & the going rates. Thanks much in advance.
p.s. 2 days ago I skyjumped (twice) from approx 700 ft at the Auckland (NZ) Skytower -- the 2000 ft Chicago Spire would be a real rush !

Did you mean construction/ground breaking started 2 years ago? If so then I don't know where you got your information from because construction started less than a year ago in July, 2007 . For those of you who are impatient, I suggest you find another hobby in the meantime because this building will not be rising until late this year or early next year. .

What kind of equipment do they now have in the core doing excavation? I know they took out the two excavators before the crane went in, do they put them back in after the crane was removed? They obviously have something since a significant amount of dirt is being removed.

1. Groundbreaking doesnt mean that they had the excavators on-site (as well as the caissons) ready to rock. That could easily take a few months (and thats a pretty short amount of time as it is).

2. This is NOT a big giant site, and on top of that this tower will be huge!
Also impressive is the top-down construction method which I have not seen before even with smaller buildings! Because of that, the underground parking levels will be constructed OUT of our sight! The construction workers and vehicles do NOT have all that much room to move around on the site, as well as get into and out of the site - so that alone adds to the logistics challenge here.

3. There are lots of caissons that needed to be drilled to support a tower of this size! Some of the caissons are ******* huge!! Also, remember that the core of this tower will be a tiny bit smaller than the diameter of the hole we see now. They are digging out the hole deeper, and installing the SUPER caissons deep inside.

4. I share the enthusiasm with all of you when it comes to watching this new age of ultra tall monstrosities - sometimes I get a little impatient myself, but..

5. In retrospect, this process of preparing the site, digging the hole for the core, installing caissons, and linking the expressway road next to the tower has "actually" been pretty FAST. Remember, this is a ******* 2000 ft tall tower (with the penthouse in the 1850ft height range) people!!

Indeed!

And because we get this excellent daily picture updates it looks like it's going slower that towers that only have picture updates every other week or even less. And they had to deal with polluted ground and most of the construction took place in the cold winter. Not to mention that there are people living just one step away from the building site.

This is just the reality of building in the real world, and people that are bitching that it goes to slow are only insulting the people that are actually building America's tallest right now. Because remember, nothing on this building site is done without a reason!

Wow, I cant believe that - Whoever painted it is obviously intending to show
to the neighbors that there "is" a reason for their homes next door to shake in harmony with the construction equipment as they drill, and pound away.

I remember when there was an apartment building being built across the street from me (6 floors), and as they were driving piles, the building I was in would slightly jolt enough to feel like a quake. It was wierd at first waking up a 8:00AM in the morning and having that just start which continued on until about 2:00PM - But after a while I phased it out, and somehow ignored it.

Im sure that the noise from this coming from the "Spire's" construction zone is a lot more than what I experienced though. Still I wonder what it would be like to live right near this in one of the closely-neighboring high-rises up about 30 floors or so. It would be so neat to watch it grow from directly above like that, and then eventually you will have to strain your neck looking up as the tower twist's and (what seems like) endless floorplates being added with relatively reasonable speed.

It was actually a reply to a comment made by harryc in one of his updates right here in this thread.
