Thank you.
The H beams ( commonly known as I Beams - in this case columns ) go inside the secant columns.

The slurry wall ( or diaphragm wall ) runs on the E and S side of the the site, the N and W sides are secant wall. Two different ways to build a wall in the ground.

A secant wall is where a bunch of overlapping columns are put in forming a wall as seen here at OMP.

Ok i get it , they basically have the save purpose (slurry and secant wall).
So why use two types, one of them must be easier to build.

Soon they are going to pour a big concrete platform on the soil (limited by the secant and slurry outside walls) , then start excavating the dirt underneath right?

Not exactly, they will excavate down far enough to give them clearance to put forms in to pour the slab, then excavate deeper to put in the next slab etc. Only the last slab (bottom) will be poured on dirt. And

can't say America isn't balanced as a nation. San Diego on one coast and Miami on the other trying to weigh down the whole shabang with empty towers.

As for the buildings being empty in SoCal, well the market there sucks. That is why they are empty.
my guess is that filling up trump and the restarted waterview is going to plenty difficult enough, considering the price and the economy. Why wouldn't the spire's developers be terribly skittish right now.

they may call it Chicago Spire, but how it proceeds hardly reflects on Chicago as much as it does on the US. No expert here by a long shot, but a building going up anywhere in the US of this magnitude comes across as a long shot, at best.

My guess? Trump and Waterview will be the final cap on this current string of supertall construction; the rest of the stratosphere looks pretty safe for a long, long time to come.

Oh come on man. I'm new to this forum and specially this building thread. Is impossible to look at all the 5150 posts already on this thread for the right answer when, in only a single post, someone could save us hours of wasted time looking for the answer.

Don't forget, the parking garage area is going to be built top down so they have lots of time to do it. At least as long as it takes to build the tower which will be over two years!

Thanks harryc, ironically that second pic with the guy wearing the "go big or go home" and the chick with her hand and the dude in the background and would need no caption! :-)

PS: Sorry Mods.

today
Hooking it up - it is hollow.

Getting it in

Dropping it ( note grinder bit and basket off to the side ).

June 01 - Caison work

Paused

Filling up a garage caisson.

Now very carefully dump the sand ( before the concrete set )

in front of ...

and behind

And very gently shovel it in by hand.

Fixing the teeth on a belling bit.

it says "INSTALL WITH SOFT HAMMER" - they were using 2 hammers, the hard one to get them out, and the soft one to put them in. After the new tooth is set in ( with a soft hammer ) it is tied off with a wire or strap (zip tie ? )
