you know, now that i look at more and more pictures of it with chicagos skyline
im coming to actually appreciate this structure
even if it doesnt match all of the buildings completely
im starting to appreciate the stucture itself, and not how well it blends in

The construction video shows rapid cladding cover compared to pace of the structure rising. What's the maximum depth of the foundation in this?

This project is truly a fantastic one and I can't imagine that it won't become a Chicago icon, but also a world skyscraper icon. That said, Chicago has always been progressive and has promoted architecture, so I couldn't imagine a better place for this to go.

Thanks for posting the video as well, really showed the construction process really well and was quite fascinating as well..

Very interesting. In the construction animation, the core is about 10 floors above the street level when the first concrete slab of the garage is poured:

Chicago Spire units sell quickly

08 June 2008 By Gillian Nelis, Property Editor

Property developer Garrett Kelleher has sold apartments ranging in price from $800,000 to over $4 million in his 150-storey Chicago Spire development.

Kelleher’s Shelbourne Development last week said it had sold 352 of the 1,194 units in the scheme since it started a global sales campaign in late January. Half of the buyers to date have come from Chicago, with the remainder from overseas, including Ireland.

While a number of industry figures had questioned whether investors would pay the prices being charged for units in the scheme, Ivan Bowen Murphy, international director of the Shelbourne Group, said the project had been well received around the world.

‘‘We’ve had no problem getting meetings with people – everyone wants to hear about the Spire,” he said. ‘‘We have done very well in Hong Kong. Buyers there are in a very advantageous currency position with the US dollar, and they are also comfortable with iconic architecture and high-rise living,” he said.

The Spire roadshow has visited Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Cape Town. Next, it will travel to the Middle East, with events planned for Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait.

‘‘There is a lot of money in that part of the world, and all of the indicators are that the scheme is going to be very well received by buyers there,” said Murphy.

‘‘There are a huge number of international funds seeking to pick up US assets at the moment, and the man on the street is no different – he wants to take advantage of the weak dollar and get into a market which he believes offers value for money.”

Murphy said the announcement that the city was in the running to host the 2016 Olympics had provided a further boost. ‘‘Now Chicago can say that it is a finalist city, and that is only going to boost its profile internationally,” he said.

‘‘The fact that a local man has secured the presidential nomination is also extremely exciting.”

The foundations of the Chicago Spire are almost complete, and Shelbourne expects to complete the project in 2012.

Are you people sure those two videos are like the only videos that show construction details of Chicago spire?

Anyway I can't wait until 2011 when I see the full documentary on this tower.

If you watch the video about the construction you'll see that the core rises several stories before the first slab is even poured for the garage. So we'll see quite a bit of "up" before we see any "down".

after watching the video linked above i have a couple of questions, firstly have all the secant and slurry walls been done?

secondly i can understand the reason for building the garage top down, better laterals support (think infinity tower) but does that mean we wont see hardly any of the construction of the parking garage???
