Thank you Harry C.. always good.
I'm off on a mission to Romania on Friday.. doubt I'll see any buildings of stature there but perhaps by mid-August the Chicago hole may prove to be in a different phase of construction.
must go pray now,
Tim

Workers are few on site and they should be some sort-after-proffessional engineers.

Aon is actually clad in white granite. This was installed in the late '80s / early 90's. The original cladding was white marble. The physical properties of the marble were unsuitable for the exposure to the climate, and several pieces were beginning to fail. As a result, the entire cladding was replaced with the granite, which has more appropriate characteristics for Chicago's weather.

See Santiago Calatrava's new Night Render on Wikipedia. (12 July 2008)

Is the best so far.

I would post the picture, but is copyrighted.

The "sticks" are meant to keep people away from the counterweight of the machine. It's a blind spot for the operator, and many injuries and fatalities have been caused by people getting caught between a fixed object and the swinging counterweight of a crane or excavator, or similar machine.

Lakeside view

The thing I don't get about this building are the views that residents will have if their condo faces the lake. With so many of the floorplans only having one or two sections of window, and the fact that the condos are so high, won't that mean that these people will only be able to see blue lake and horizon??

For me, I wouldn't want to plunk down this kind of money to see... Lake Michigan. Will the east-facing condos be cheaper because of this?

I have read nearly all of the banter in this thread since its inception, but I don't remember anyone bringing this up.

Love the Spire, though!
