I seem to remember footings being dug in the ground around the hole. What happened to them?

th 14 rock caissons along with 90+ belled caissons have all been buried. Standard practice to allow equipment to move around on the site.

Buried???

I wonder why, maybe there won't be a floor between 6th and 7th ring, but maybe floor between 5th and 6th ring is the deepest floor.

but according to the video I've seen there'll be 7-8 floors underground for parking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPHx9...eature=related (this video is different from the videos posted before)

and also, how many bell caissons installed out of 98?

CASE buries everything, the next crew will dig it and the caisson tops out when they put in the map.

The whalers are temporary and don't match the floors.

Is the grading being done in anticipation of the General Contractor or is it part of Case cleaning up and clearing out?

BTW, I've been wondering this ever since I've been reading this thread. Why the heck are those rings called "whalers"? Their purpose is obvious to me (to reinforce the hole), but what does that have to do with marine mammals?

Because of the fact they are huge and very heavy?
