It's a fantastic location for a skyscraper, especially a residential one. The building will have private ramps from Lake Shore Drive for vehicle traffic. The Miracle Mile (shopping) and Navy Pier (entertainment) are both very close by as are many of the nicest restaurants in Chicago. It's probably one of the best locations in the world for a residential skyscraper.

My guess is it is some sort of tent. You can see a bunch of poles in the truck and they seem to have stakes in the ground outlining where the tent will be.

I agree with all your thoughts but it is the "magnificent mile"

I'm afraid that the kind of people who are going to live in the Spire are not the kind of people who hang out at Navy Pier! The Spire is in an OK location, but it's not nearly the best place to be downtown. You are a significant walk away from any kind of amenities like a convenience store and there is nothing right around the Spire except homes. It's not a bad location but it's definitely not the premiere spot to live downtown, or else something would have been built there already!

that people were going to live here probably will have groceries and other items like that delivered anyway so having a convenience store nearby is definitely not a necessity. I actually do think some of the people living here will go to the Navy Pier because I believe most of the owners will be younger nouveau rich individuals not old money people. I think one of the big reasons nothing has been built here before is because of the complexity of building here not because of the lack of desirability of the site. I'll stand by my last statement that I think it's one of the best places in the world that a new residential skyscraper is being built.

1: not trying to be a smartass, but i dont think its right to assume that everybody is gonna order food to the building. 2: Navy Pier is a tourist trap, not a place where residents go.

I'll bring the chips for the party. Oh and that white thing looks like it might be a tent for a groundbreaking ceremony.

you know, i dont see why you guys are saying its the wrong location or its the right location. its at where its at, theres nothing we can do or say that will change that. i think its in the best location in Chicago! and there no point in arguing because soon its going to RISE!!!! and catch up to the slow freedom tower in no time!

Look closely and one can see orange markings on the ground throughout the site. I don't believe they were there a couple days ago. Could be survey marks for the garage?
