One of the most amazing things that I notice in this latest calatrava model is the high arches at the base of the building. STRs rendering doesn't pick this up and I really like how they lighten the base. So much attention has been placed on the top of this one that Ive not seen any mention of how it interacts with the ground. This is a great improvement over the original block pedestal base. I have attempted to blow this picture up but it isn't a very good resolution. i_am_hydrogen, can you enlarge the base and repost it?

I agree. The base is an enormous leap forward from the pedestal. Those higher, outer arches look like they could be 10-15 floors high. Can you imagine what it will be like to stand at the base of this building and stare up at these graceful, soaring forms?!?

So are they going to change it again on the 26th?

I'm not sure about this tower. I want it to get built, but it's kind of annoying to look at. I prefer the original version.

I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority with this, but I feel its slighly better looking without the rail things at the corners/edges

i dont like the style

i rather have it squared with punchy design

Keep in mind that STR's model isn't 100 percent accurate.

Here's Calatrava's model:

And look it this amazing base:

When it relaxes, will it go down to the height of 21 storeys?

Luckely I haven't got a certain piece of anatomy that's twisted that way. :ouch:

The model looks fantastic btw.

I like very much de detalis, the corners, and the base on the model, but not the general shape. I think the top is so elliptic and perhaps should be nicer much sharp. Really it looks like a banana or something worst

And the bridge is a full copy of his own desing in Sevilla (1.992)

I don't know if I prefer this new design or the first one. This one looks more elegant, but it urgently needs a spire.Even the name of the building says that

I'd say the building itself looks like a spire hence the name. Though another on top would be cool if it had an organic presence like the original design. This building will become an icon for Chicago and not just for the buildings height but for it's amazing design.

I can't wait.
