looks like the trailer is there just to drop off the wire fence that will be more longterm (since the project is pending) then the plastic orange one. You can see the fence posts, but no fence surrounding the plastic one in harryc's pics.

Huh? It's a construction trailer. Why would a construction trailer be there to drop off fencing? That makes no sense what-so-ever.

I certainly never seen a construction trailer set up on a site just to install fencing. The trailer they moved in as a large one and looks like an office type trailer usually used by engineers and construction managers. Kind of a strange mix seeing the trailer arrive as well as the fencing around the hole. We'll just have to wait to see what happens when at least for me the trailer is a good sign.

There are signs on the doors...I wonder what they say? Trailer could be there for the comfort of those visiting the site from time to time...guards, people checking the pumps, etc.

Likely the office for the people running the show and on site information. Plans, planning, managers, engineers, surveyors, architects, maps, the list is endless.

Company that rents the trailer ( container w doors, windows, and AC/heat )

Humor

There are 3 white guard shacks one at each entrance. the security staff has remained the same.

This is so sad. I really loved this tower. The last chance of the western world to compete with middle east and asia.

Hope this trailer is good news.

USA won't be able to compete with Middle East in skyscraper heights at least for a while. USA has strict limit on the maximum height of the skyscrapers which is 2000ft, whereas Middle East doesn't (obviously not allowed to build space elevator and stuff...)

So as someone new to this whole process, what happens to partially completed towers like Waterview? Do they just sit there partially constructed for 2 years while they look for financing? What if it never gets restarted, do they just leave it like that or do they tear it back down? What are the chances it never gets restarted? Have there been any other major buildings in Chicago that have been started and never finished?

Given the current economic climate, Most likely the Spire will be a hole in the ground for quite a while.

Yep, they just sit there. Unless, another developer with the funds at hand comes along and complete the project

As for the Waterview.... I have no idea when construction we restart

Probably, be then again Chicago hasn't seen a building boom like the recent 10 years probably since the early 1900's. So we are really in uncharted waters...

Let's just hope this whole banking crisis is settled soon. I will confess, I am not at all optimistic at the moment....

Okay, I just joined this forum because I think it's absolutely outrageous you guys can think its okay to "Pending" on the Chicago Spire! What the heck is pending?! Pending IS NOT (and never has been) a building status!! I've NEVER seen a skyscraper get labeled with that kind of status, they either are going forward or not, or are on hold! Why would you suddenly do something like this now?! You’re undermining the progress of the tower by circulating complete trash! The developer of this tower has not said once, ONCE, that this tower is pending! You’re putting at risk the credibility of this site, and the information presented on it! Shelbourne said that there would be a "slow down", not "we're not sure if we want to do this anymore..." Stop being ridicules!! History is proof the economy of the United States always comes back again shortly after a recession, this tower is going forward, unless the developers come out and say otherwise! Until something is said, you have no right to be put pending on anything! Pending is like “optional!” I demand the moderators remove the label immediately!

Maybe they are putting the fences because of security purposes. Because when they start the ground works around the the big hole (the piling etc), I don't think they won't want to let a worker fall into that hole...

well,we didnt want it to be pending.wouldnt we like to see the label saying:under contsruction or something good.

if you want to know why its on pending read post:6507.

(and yes, when th economy gets better, the mods will move it back to under construction)

But there is no "pending" label! That's never been a label, you can't just make one up! I don't understand, you don't even need to look at pictures to decided (we know there's electrical work going on, and Shelbourne's defiantly selling units). You have to go by what the developer is telling us, and they have said nothing about "pending", in which case you guys are spreading false information! I have great respect for I_Am_Hydrogen, but this is not acceptable! I will consider writing a note to him also, if he does address my concerns.
