From the looks of the tire tracks, looks like they are paying someone to check on the site. No evidence of any activity around the trailer, so I wonder what it is there for.

I believe the construction will start (definately) but not this year. But from 2010 on when USA will recover...

I've had that same thought sometimes -- and other times I muse that maybe he would have been forced to stop it mid-construction, so that we would have ended up with a Chicago Stump (a possibility discussed here before).

I also have wondered what would have happened if the neighborhood associations, etc., didn't slow him down like they did -- he either could have finished it as we all would have hoped, or else he would have built the "C" version he was shopping around at that time, which also would have been a pretty crappy outcome imo.

Meanwhile, I'll be forever keeping my fingers crossed that the CS rises out of that hole one day. Maybe in 5-10 years?

So CS is not going to be built. That's so sad hahaha I liked it a lot. I thought Chicago was gonna have the tallest building in America.

if they do cancel it they should turn it into a park and the main foundation into a swimming pool after filling it in a bit and in the winter an ice skating place

Chicago Spire
January 26, 2009
The Chicago Spire has seen its share of ups and downs. Beanie Babies mogul Ty Warner reportedly agreed in September to buy the 10,293-square-foot penthouse, which had an asking price of $40 million. Sales at the project, acclaimed for its soaring height and twisting design, accounted for 58% of all new downtown condos sold in 2008 as of October, according to Chicago-based real estate consulting firm Appraisal Research Counselors.

But work on the 150-story tower has ground to a halt amid a slowing economy and financial disputes with contractors and architects. Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, claiming he is owed $11.3 million for his work on the Spire, is among those who filed liens in October against Dublin, Ireland-based developer Shelbourne. And the completion date has been pushed back a year, to 2012.

Given the setbacks, observers might confuse the massive hole in the ground at the Spire's development site with a grave. But a project spokeswoman says the tower isn't dead. "People are still coming in and writing checks," she says. "The world has come to a standstill . . . but the Spire is in good position to weather this."

Maybe he meant after FT is built.

Anyway.

I'm just happy we're the birthplace of the skyscraper.

That should be Chicago's nickname instead of the "The city of wind"

Although the location strikes me as a bit odd (Lake Shore Drive is noisy), it is a truly great design and a brilliant project. Some time somebody will pick it up again, I'm sure of that.
