Two Chicago Towers Fall Victim to Scarce Financing

By ROBERT SHAROFF
Published: February 3, 2009
CHICAGO — Back in 2006, at the height of the real estate boom, two projects here stood out as harbingers of a bright future for residential development.

I have a feeling we wont see a lot of info or luck with the banks at least until this fall. Hopefully if we get the Olympics it will add a much needed positive bump to get it rolling again. (if)

Of course the recession will end. But will the developer survive the recession? Probably not.

I guess they will put a diving board on it in the Summer, and have a very deep swimming pool.

It seems something calling itself the Chicago Spire is taking construction bids:

Quote:
Chicago: Chicago Spire, 400 E. North Water St., 115-story residential tower, March 2010, $2.2 billion.
It has a lower floor count, that may be a typo, but if isn't then they have somehow reduced height without reducing cost.

It also has a very unrealistic completion date! Even if they were working today there is no way it would be completed in a year! Considering the listing as two obvious mistakes makes you wonder if it's valid.

Sad pictures.

I can't help noticing that everytime you took pictures of Chicago Spire site, that elevated freeway always look so empty... Have that freeway had traffic jams? I think it is ridiculous to have freeway with 4 or more lanes even not many people use it.

It is a pity that the best supertall project going on in the US had been cancelled.
